Eyes on the Unseen Prize Reviews
Stephanie Thomason's book, "Eyes on the Unseen Prize," is easy to read and is not sluggish in pace. The story line follows the lives of Piper and Nick, both of whom are young adults just beginning their careers. Through the window of their lives we meet their friends, people at work, people on the street, and people with whom and for whom they volunteer. They are an "everyman" type that each of us can relate to. What makes them different from many people in this story and in our lives is their faith is lived out in action and word as they go through their normal days. Just as each of us have normal regular types of days, Piper and Nick do as well. Through their lives we see examples of how we can show God's love to people and how we can give a voice to our faith to the people around us. Many Christians profess faith in Jesus Christ, but do not know to act out their faith or do not know how to speak about it to their friends when the friends are doing ungodly things and living in a way that is morally wrong. Piper and Nick show us and tell us how the Bible and Christianity are relevant for today. It is not outdated or obsolete. We remember the Word of God is alive and active, sharper than any two-edged sword. (Hebrews 4:12)This book is for people who like young adult fiction. It is for people who want relative fiction. Eyes on the Unseen Prize is for people who want encouragement that they can live for Christ and it will make a difference; they won't be laughed at and left by their friends. Most of all, this book is for people who seek Christian fiction that is relevant for today for themselves and their friends. When you buy this book for yourself, buy one for your friend, too. You both will enjoy it and will be enlightened by it.
“God wanted her to be purposeful about spreading His message, whether it be in her office, in her neighborhood, or wherever He directed her to walk on this earth.” Thus ends “Eyes on the Unseen Prize”, S.J. Thomason's Christian romance.First Peter 3:15 tells us to “...honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect”. This is certainly what Thomason has done here. Her passion for sharing the gospel is evident in every paragraph of this book. “Eyes on the Unseen Prize” introduces us to Piper, a twenty-something who loves the Lord and isn't afraid to share her knowledge of His Word with family and friends, even when they don't want to hear it. We also meet Nick, Piper's boyfriend, and get to see their relationship grow in mutual love and respect. Nick and Piper's friends are featured prominently as well, and we're privy to many of the ups and downs in their lives, as this story takes place over several years. Some of the downs are tough to read, but we're constantly reminded that our faith is in a sovereign God Who loves us and has a plan for our lives. My favorite quote from the book is, “This life is but a speck of sand in the eternal beach of heaven”. I have often quoted James 4:14 which says, in part, “For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes”, but I love the alternate picture of Heaven as an eternal beach. If you are looking for an encouraging Christian book with a happy ending, look no further than “Eyes on the Unseen Prize”.
