Pleasantly surprised by this series! I've really enjoyed them - plenty of non-relational drama to keep you engaged and on the edge of your seat but the romance was well done, too. :)

Continuation of a good storyLover Wolf is the second book in a series, but it stands on its own just fine. Heath is the Donovan brother voted least likely to succeed by the rest of his siblings. He comes across as a spoiled, lazy, playboy and most people in town discount him. Including Tessa, the manager of the bar that Heath bought, apparently on a whim. Tessa continues to work there even though she dislikes shifters because she loves her job and she's good at it. Heath, with his easy charm and good looks, is a draw for customers, especially of the female variety, and now that the Donovan brothers are trying to rehab Shifter Falls it makes sense that at least one of them runs a paying business. When a hiker turns up dead in the woods Heath steps up, along with his brothers, to protect the town and everyone, including Tessa, begins to realize that they may have been selling Heath short.I continue to like this series. The story is solid and well paced. The characters are engaging and believable. The romance is steamy, but it only occurs in places that make logical sense in the story. And there is an actual story. Heath is a likeable character from the get go, if the story were set in Southern California he'd be the affable surfer dude that all the girls drool over. But instead, he runs a bar in a small shifter town in Colorado. And runs it rather well, much to the surprise and sometimes disgust of his manager, Tessa. Heath is more than he appears, which isn't terribly surprising, considering the circumstances in which the Donovan brothers were raised. It makes sense that they'd each develop their own coping strategies and defense mechanisms. What's surprising is that Tessa isn't exactly what she appears to be either, much to her surprise. However, it turns out that she has always behaved exactly like who she is, which is one of the things that I really like about this book. The characters stay in chatacter. As we learn more about them their actions and reactions make more and more sense, like getting to know a friend. That alone makes the series worth reading.

3.3 starsThis was a more interesting book than Rebel Wolf, featuring Heath Donovan, Ian’s half brother, and Tessa Keefe, who works at his bar, the Black Wolf. Tessa and Heath sass each other, but under that runs an attraction. Heath, whose womanizing reputation precedes him, has been celibate for months when a kidnapping attempt is made on Tessa.Behind the attempt is Xander Martell, Tessa’s werewolf half-brother, who wants to take the Donovans’ territory. Tessa is adopted, and her mother has warned her about shifters for most of her life (this made me confused as to how Tessa ended up in Shifter Falls), but now Tessa is in danger from one. Partly for self-protection, and partly because she is attracted to Heath, Tessa proposes that they mate. Being a Donovan’s mate will protect her from other wolves. The mating-of-convenience isn’t a plot I’ve seen before in a paranormal context, so I was a bit disappointed that its full ramifications were not explored. The conflict between the two packs was a bit of an improvement over the suspense plot in the previous book, though as part of the sequel-baiting, one of the villains wasn’t caught. All the same issues with werewolf biology are still present in this book, too. Still, the book makes for fast reading, not only because it is short (185 kindle pages) and plotted in a page-turning way, but also because Heath has an interesting background. As a youth, Heath was spoiled by his father as part of a strategy to keep him in check; he went along with it to survive. So he isn’t really the shallow womanizer others think he is, and he takes advantage of being underestimated to gather intelligence. Even so, a lifetime of being underestimated has done a number on his self-esteem, to some degree. He thinks he isn’t good for much besides sex, but here, he and Tessa both learn otherwise. This was an improvement over Rebel Wolf. Lover Wolf gets a C+.

I absolutely love this series. I wasn't too enthusiastic about reading Heath's book, because I really just want to get to Devon and Brody's books, but there is a hidden depth to Heath that we learn about in this book. The romance was pretty easy, it helps that the characters already knew each other and have feels for each other, but didn't act on them. The big push to get them together felt awkward... it just really didn't fit the book nor the character's personality in my opinion, but it worked out and I can forgive it. Also, events always seem to go positive for these characters, which should make the story less exciting, but I have to say I was gripped the entire time. The characters are believable and likeable, even Devon who is supposed to be unlikeable --I want to read your story!!!I don't know why I love this series or the writing so much, I honestly can't put my finger on it. I do wish these books were longer -- I'm sad to see the upcoming books are even shorter, but I'll probably buy them anyway because I'm interested in the story and these characters. Can't wait to get my hands on Warrior Wolf!

I love the heroine in this book. She's so pragmatic and ready to take things head on. She and Heath make a great complimentary pair. I also loved that as soon as she needs him, he's done protecting himself and denying his feelings. This is a really nice shifter book and I'm looking forward to the rest of the series

Heir to a packOur heroine is tough and human, she was adopted and raised without any real warmth from her parents. Now she finds herself rethinking her upbringing and wondering when she started to notice the bad boy of the Donovan family. She finds herself caught up in a plot to take over territory, has her life threatened and her wish fulfilled, mated to a sexy wolf.
