With an estimation of thirty million apple trees in just the Unites States, the apple tree is the most popular fruit tree. This book talks about the life of an apple and more importantly where this delicious fruit that we all eat comes from. This book does a superb job at teaching readers all there is about apples. What I really enjoyed about this book was that its language was very informative but very enthusiastic about the topic. If the vocabulary was a bit challenging, they put a small definition after the word for the reader to refer to. The book also does an excellent job at showing in pictures and diagrams what is being taught. When talking about how an apple grows, there are pictures and diagrams with explanations to show the reader what the text is saying. The book is well rounded in that it teaches about what apples are, where they come from, how they grow, the different parts of them, the many uses of them, the different kinds, and the history of where apples first were grown. This is a very informative book that is appealing to all readers and teaches a topic that wouldn’t usually be desirable, in a fun and informative and interactive way. Micucci, C. (1992). This is a great little book full of information. I picked it up at the library to read to the children because it is apple season and we had just been picking apples off our tree. I found that I learned a lot about how apples reproduce and grow. The book explains in pretty good detail the parts of an apple blossom and how it is pollinated at a level that even my younger children could understand. My only complaint about the book it has to go an say that apple trees have been growing on the earth for 2 1/2 million years and shows this on a timeline, as well. I don't believe the theory that the earth has evolved over millions of years and did not see the need to present this as a "fact." But that is a whole different discussion that doesn't pertain to this review. Anyway, this opened the door to discussion in this area with the kids.Overall, the book is full of great color drawings, interestng information, and was a pleasure to read with the kids.

Apples are one of the yummiest foods that grow on our planet. And children need to be educated on these delicious fruits! This informative book is perfect for the curious kid that wants to know all about apples. The cutoffs, charts, comparisons, and detailed history of apples are delightfully displayed in this book. I learned just about everything there is to know about apples from this work. My only complaint is that this book teaches that apples were first grown over 2.5 million years ago. Although I believe the earth is no that old, I still enjoy that The Life and Times of the Apple is jam-packed with endless information about apples. The fun pictures make it even more exciting to read.

This would be a perfect book to read to students before they go on a field trip to Huber's or any apple orchard. I recommend that you don't read the book to kids from start to finish because there's so much information that it becomes overwhelming. Instead, read each section seperately.I thought Micucci did a fantastic job covering several topics in regard to apples. He included everything from how to grow an apple, where they are grown, and even information about Johnny Appleseed. This book has so much information that it could be used for several different lessons.

This is a good book to have when teaching units on apples or fall. It contains a lot of information about apples. It inclues the different types of apples, where they come from, the different parts of apples, how apple trees are pollenated, and many of the things made from apples. This is not a book appropriate for young children without adult-lead discussion.

Great book all about apples - how the trees and buds grow, what happens to the fruit, its history, types of apples, etc. Has colorful, helpful illustrations. Great for any age who's interested in knowing everything about apples. Would also be good as part of a fall unit.

I enjoyed reading this book. The content was explained and covered well. Some issues I had with the book was that the print was too small and the abundance of text could be a little overwhelming.

There is a ton of great information in this one, but no one has probably read it. You know who would love this book? Applejack, the My Little Pony.
