Ironclad!: A True Story of the Civil War Reviews
gr 3-5 ? 92 pgs1862 Hampton Roads, Virginia. Describes people's reactions to the building of the Confederate ship Merrimac and the Union ship Monitor. People are doubtful that either ship will not sink because these ironclad ships looks so different from traditional sailing ships. When the Merrimac attempts to break the blockade, the Monitor is sent to stop it.The story provided a lot of information about the ships, their construction, people's reactions to them, and of course the battle. I think this story woud appeal to a reader who likes non fiction because the focus was on the battle instead of focusing on a single character.
