Okay, I guess there is a need for books to tackle this subject. Girl, who has been completely focused on herself and her future, falls in love for the first time and the rest of her life starts to fall apart. It was just a little bland and a little didactic. However, it did have it moments that made it a good, fairly clean teen romance book.Recommended for middle school and early high school students who like relationship books and might need a reminder that sometimes you need to look out for yourself first.

This is a super cheesy, super classy book of love. I LOVED it! What had me was the cheesiness of love that was going on it It was all thinking about each other, putting everything off for each other. I love first love books so if anything the cheesiness made it better. You first love you will always remember. Amy meets a boy on her swim team and falls in love quickly. Leaving everything and anything behind. She soon realizes that homework won't finish itself and has to put her foot down when it comes to Chris. She always has to decide where there future stands. What I like most about this book was the choice Amy had to make. Her mother, after a bad relationship always told her to be practical. Don't think about boys think about your future. Amy has to fight with her mom constantly over this issue. I felt for Amy. I knew she loved him but her mother always made her choose. It aggravated me. She made is difficult on her. Amy listen to heart and made the right choice. The book was really short. But the way the story flowed and ended I love it.

Cheesy, cute, first love in high school story. Good lesson for teenagers that an exciting new boyfriend should not steer you away from your dreams and goals.

This book started off fine, but the love interest disregarded her boundaries constantly, behaved obsessively, and was just an all around creep. But hey, he's cute, so it's fine. Ugh. I didn't want them to be together at the end. A better ending would have been a lesson on how first love doesn't mean best love, and it's okay to break up with a boy you care about, especially if he consistently ignores your needs in favor of his wants.

Not bad. Amy was interesting but I didn't think the relationship with Chris was built on strong foundations. Nice writing, though I would like the characters fleshed out a lot more.

Kniha sa mi páčila, pekne vykreslené pocity a dej. Naopak ľahko predvídateľný záver, jednoduchý príbeh. Ale inak pekné.

Love Stories Re-Read Project, Book #1The protagonist in this book, Amy, is your average girl with a girl best friend (Blythe) and boy best friend (Rick). One night after a study session, Rick kisses her but she's not interested -- Amy's into an older boy from her swim team named Chris. Turns out he likes her too, but Amy's Mom is super strict and doesn't want her to date, so they have to sneak around. Her grades and swim performance plummet and she freaks, because she's in a poor single parent household & is going to need scholarships for college. Chris is blase about it because he's a rich boy who could give two shits about school, and hasn't figured out anything yet for his future. So they break up, Amy gets her crap back together and quits being a bitch to her friends. I honestly thought she was going to throw him over for Rick at the big dance, but instead she sets up Rick with Blythe, who has a mad crush on him. And Amy talks to Chris, like a rational human being, and they work things out. He now sees how douchey he was being expecting Amy to focus all her time on him. He also had a college visit to Stanford that changed his view on things. The book ends with them back together, being more adult & reasonable about their relationship.[image error]Overall, a cute little book that clocked in at under 200 pages and was very unassuming. It took so little of my life (an hour) that I don't regret reading it. I won't be rereading it ever, but it was better than I was expecting. It was nice to see a female main character with a strong same-gender friendship (where they don't slut-shame, or just discuss boys), a focus on her studies and the ability to realize when her romantic relationship was taking over her life -- and correct the problem!!! Tell me how often that happens in contemporary YA nowadays?! Now it's on to book #2, where the best friend is dying and the main girl "shares" her boyfriend with her because she "can't" tell her she loves him too. How much you wanna bet it's cancer? *Braces Self for Impact*

Have you ever been so focused on school that you never thought you would have time for a love life? One of Callie's strengths were that she made Amy character a very strong person. She also made Amy's background very interesting and a good reason why she should be doing good in school. Another good strength I think the author made towards the book was Amy's relationship with her mom because at the end of the story Amy's mom is very understanding. The last Strength I think that the author made towards the book is the romantic settings between Amy and Chris because one of the romantic settings was watching the lunar eclipse. One of the authors weaknesses towards the book I think she made was Amy's relationship between Rick. I think that was a weakness because if Amy hadn't known that Rick liked her then their relationship wouldn't have been awkward and also Amy's friend liked Rick. Another weakness that I think Callie made towards the book was when Chris and Amy broke up. I think that if they had stayed together then Amy would've proven her goals of having a love life and staying focus in school. The last weakness that I think the author made towards the book was Amy going to the dance with her friend and Rick. I think she should have gone with Chris because that's who she really wanted to be with. I recommend this book because if you want to learn how to handle not having a love and just try focusing in school then this is the book for you.

I thought that it was a very good book. I have learned many things about love and life in general from reading this book. For example, I learned that grades and other important things should basically come first and there should not be too much love so that it interferes with the other important things in your life. This book teaches many other important lessons. I enjoyed the book and I would love to read more of Callie West books! My First LoveCallie West

High school junior Amy is too busy trying to keep her grades up and her swimming skills strong to date. Her social life consists of time with her best friends, Blythe and Rick. Amy has had her eye on fellow swimmer, Chris, and when he asks her out, she experiences what she feels is her first love. As she pushes aside her studying and swimming to spend time with Chris, her grades slip and her position on the swim team is taken by a rival. Amy finally realizes that she must step away from the relationship. After a brief period apart, Amy and Chris get back together. It was difficult to form a bond with the two protagonists, as Amy is portrayed as weak and emotional and Chris as manipulative. A big disappointment.

Great book for tween & teen girls looking for romance and friendship, story about dealing with pressures of high school The main character is a "good girl" who focuses on school and swimming - all in the hopes of getting a college scholarship. Her mother works two jobs and constantly reminds Amy to not lose focus or make the mistake of "getting swept up by love and ruining her future"But when Amy and Chris begin secretly dating, questions about how to balance SAT's, homework, friendships, and swimming jeopardize everything. Light read

I thought this book was super cute but there were times when I found the characters not so....pleasing....Idk maybe it's the fact that I'm realizing my life's not going to be a fairy tale like that, but yea they seemed a little too obsessed with each other at times but it was still cute :)

This is a cute book. Nothing special, but sweet. It'll have a bigger appeal on maybe 13-year-olds who just started to get interested in boys. It also implies a good lesson: that a boyfriend shouldn't distract you from all your other responsibilities.

It wasn't the most exciting book I've read, I felt that Amy and Chris' relationship was a shallow one, nothing really deep. Amy is an interesting, round character, so I appreciate the way she was written but the plot was a little lame.
