A wonderful coffee table sized book on the history of baseball with marvelous SI photos inside along with very good essays that go with each decade of baseball. Never have seen some of these photos before and the format of the book is very catchy with both photos and essays, along with things like the All-Decade teams, sports/celebrity births and deaths in that decade, the 10 best games of that decade. A little light on essays of the pioneer years of the 1800's but this book is about 10 years old and a lot of research and books have been published since then. Loved the book and the photos of just superb!!

Although my 3 star review may make it seem like I did not enjoy this book, that is definitely not the case. I loved aEvery bit of this book. The 3 star review reflects my desire for certain improvements in the book which would make it unbearable. First, the organization is abysmal, mainly because it is almost impossible to detect any organization theme. It's not chronological, geographical, or topical. Second, a bit of background info for the essays is critical. Many of the pieces were either written contemporaneously or written to appear contemporaneous. However, no brief notes at the beginning (or anywhere else on the page) give any u dictation of when the events described in the essay took place. If these things could be corrected this would be an absolutely amazing 5 star book.

This book called '', Sports Illustrated The Baseball Book'', by Sports Illustrated is a really challenging book. It was really challenging because like their was a lot of words in the story that I really didn't know how to say. Also the words were small so it was hard to read. This story was telling you about all the baseball history of baseball. For example it states the first day that that Jackie Robinson played pro baseball. Also when Jackie Robinson played baseball and was receiving threatening comments. A recommendation to Sports Illustrated is to please make the letters more bigger. But overall it was a good book.

This book is beautiful and does a great job of examining many of the greats in baseball history and assigning some type of order too them. SI makes no attempt to offer irrefutable evidence as to why this one ranks 4th and this other one 9th which is great fun because it let's us argue about if it's right or wrong and why isn't this in there. This is a great coffee table book as people have said and is lots of fun to read.

Has to be seen to be believed. SI has gathered the best photos from their illustrious history to create the ultimate gallery of legends for baseball fans. Aerial photos, 'how did they get so close' shots, and historical moments all seem larger than life in this sizable book.If you love the game, this book will get you closer to the action than dugout seats!

A coffee table baseball book with some top-notch photography from SI. Includes articles from some of the game's best sportswriters. The problem, and the reason I could only give this 2 stars, is that the articles and essays are abbreviated. Had they chosen to include these in their entirety, I would have given it 4 stars. Very disappointing.

Fabulous photos accompanied by excerpts from Sports Illustrated articles. What I liked most about this book is that it breaks down baseball by each decade, and names an all-star team for each ten year period. It also compiles an all-time all-star team. I'd rather see Roberto Clemente on this team than Alex Rodriguez, but it's pretty solid, otherwise.
