Fantastic short story written in the format of a crowd funding project. It had a lot more depth to it than I was expecting. *This is part of the 2017 Short Story Advent Calendar put out by Hingston & Olsen.

there's more of an emotional punch in this little story than I thought! I love the relevance of a kickstarter campaign to get to the land of the dead too. highly recommend!

This was an interesting little short story. The concept was intriguing and I was shocked by the ending. The story was told through a GoFundMe Page which was such a unique way to tell a story, as Ursula is trying to raise money to reach her sister in the Land of the Dead. I think this could have been an interesting and unique novel if it was expanded. It was just so fast and I wanted more from it. I needed more information about the event and what lead to it.

That can't seriously be it, right? There has got to be more to this story. I think this had a super interesting plot and a lot of potential and could totally be a full-length novel! It has so much room to be developed, and I just really want a complete novelization of this short story. Please? Like, this has the potential to be really great! I just wish it was longer...

Help Me Follow My Sister Into the Land of the Dead by Carmen Maria Machado is an interesting short story set up in the format of a GoFundMe page. I received a print copy through PageHabit... I was happy to have read this story. However, I wouldn't have labeled it horror, which is the box that I had gotten... So that was a bit of a let down. But anyway! This was an interesting story! I liked that the format was a GoFundMe page. As a result, the book followed along with the elements of the page; number of backers, amount pledged, how many days are left in the campaign, a description (which included the backstory), a quick FAQ (that dives a little deeper into the back story), the pledge amounts broken out by dollar amount and the gifts that go along with them, the updates that guided us through the story, and then finally the comments that end it.This is a very quick read; I think it took me just ten minutes to read. I did enjoy it, but didn't love it. However, I would definitely recommend checking it out.

3.75 stars This story is really short. It is set in 2015, and it has an interesting premise. Ursula has created a Gofundme page to raise money for a trip to the land of the dead where she knows her sister is visiting. There were a couple twists which surprised me in something so small. This was the first thing I've read by Machado, but now, I am definitely interested in reading some of her other stuff.

Great little short story. First time reading anything by Carmen maria Machado. Interesting in reading more of her work. Told from the perspective of a GoFundMe page, with a surprising little twist at the end. Would recommend this to others.

A girl must travel to the Land of the Dead, to retrieve her sister and give her some news. This short story is told through a GoFundMe page, which made it feel very modern. I really liked this story! Without revealing too much, it has a shocker of an ending! I definitely recommend this one!

This was a very clever short story and the twist was interesting but it wasn't really unique.
