The Dresden Dolls Companion Reviews
Of all the sheet music collections I have read, this one is my favourite. Not only does it contain the sheet music for 12 of The Dresden Dolls songs it also has stories about their creation and hand written notes on the music itself; and boy are some of those notes and stories entertaining!
I am totally biast, I didn't really have to read this book to know that I loved it. That is because I am in love with Amanda Palmer (lead singer of the Dresden Dolls)and in my eyes, everything she does is amazing and sexy. Basically ,this book accounts the story behind each of the songs on The Dresden Dolls first album. There are lots of pictures, even some nudies of Ms. Palmer! The last half of the book is music notes on how to play the songs yourself. They closest I get to that is when I am typing at work and listening to my Mp3 player and pretending to rock out on a piano. I hope no one at work notices the occasionally dramatic head bang that I can't hold back during a really intense solo.Anyhoo... Amanda, if you are reading this, just know you are my #1 girl (sorry Erika).
This book is everything every fan could ever wished of an album companion. On top of all the sheet music for the songs (with hand written tips from Amanda) the text includes narrative about the formation of the band, the creation of the album, and the inspiration for each sons, all framed with beautiful artwork and more scrap booking than you could ever hope for. I would definitely hold off reading this companion until you've allowed these songs to bring forth their own meaning for you, but thats just me.If you're different, thank the stars!
A really interesting read, in addition to the song transcriptions. I'm pretty enamored by the Dresden Dolls, and the many different forms their artistic output manifests in.
A few years ago I learned to play every song in this book. The sheet music is very close to the way Amanda Palmer plays it on the album. Good times.
