Lean on Me by Jack Weyland is a book that tells about going through adolescents. Greg the main character comes home from an LDS mission and flashes back to his high school days when he and a group of his Mormon friends had a singing group. Greg loves to sing with his friends. The book goes into some detail of the trials at home and trials at school these teens went through. I loved this book because I am going to adolescents and I feel like I could connect with some of their trials. When I was first reading about Jonathan and his dad leaving, I felt like I could think of a series of people who their parent had left or their parents had gotten divorced. The way Jonathan described his dad leaving his family it made me think that the children in the family are effected by the parents decision just as much as the parent is. When Brooke first brought in Ryan I judged him. He didn't go to church, he swore, he smoked, he liked to party on the weekends, he got into fights. I felt like Ryan would be my definition of thug. When Ryan started to change I was so proud. With Greg's dad as farmer Greg was effected by his dad's crop. I felt like lots of teenagers stop talking to their parents because they are to "cool" or they don't think their parents will understand what's going on in their lives. The theme of this book for me was "Choose good friends" because the five friends faced trials and hardships but because they all had good values it changed Ryan and it made them all better people.

This was actually really good! I love the way it's all a flash back and then goes back to the present where the problem is finally resolved! Great, and I'm impressed with all of his books. It made me not expect the ending - at all. Not many books take me by surprise, especially when they've made it seem predictable for the rest of the book ... seriously, you'll just have to read it.

I liked this Weyland because there was a larger group of main characters. I would have loved to have such a group of friends during my high school years. And again I took with me a few lessons from the book.

I don't know if I liked how this turned out, but I thought this novel was a bit higher-notch than many other of his novels.

Another staple from my growing years. We had this book on tape and I listened to it lots-- it's about a singing group and a best-friend romance. What's not to love?

You really would need to be LDS to have a grasp on the culture, but the morals presented are great for anyone. As a teenager bursting with sensibility, I loved it. :)

I liked this book but it seemed to be more like a compliation of past charachters written together rather than an orignal story. So in a way I felt cheated out of a new story when I read it.
