Oh this was beautiful. Especially the 'Reflection and Contemplation' part. I enjoyed every word, every phrase, every sentence, verse, and poem. Some poems made me cry, others were an inspiration, that one made me young, another one made me old, they took me back to my past while others made see the future, and overall I was happy where I was. We should all read this books.

Ah, Grandma, if it weren't for you I'd be as stupid as the rest of my family. This is a great collection with all the classics. Remember Me was the first poem I ever memorized and Lonely as a Cloud (?) is still one of my favorites. Great intro to poems that still beat the pants off most anything out there.

Everyone needs this book so when the phrase pops in your head, you can read the poem again.

This compilation of poems is a wonderful addition to the shelf of anyone who loves poetry. Hazel Felleman has filled this volume with poems and prose of various styles from pieces that tell a story or ballad, humorous pieces that will make you laugh, to musings on grand themes like love, friendship, death, the turning of the seasons. Each section is filled to the brim with poems that will become your favorites. Some offering comfort in times of trouble, recollections of childhood, and the bittersweet musings on growing older.Whether you are just dipping your toes into the deep waters of poetry, or if you are well versed in verse, there is something here for you. Felleman did a wonderful job on this compendium and it's worth your time to pick it up.

I grew up with this anthology in my house and it was my first serious introduction to poetry. It contains many of the most accessible poems of the most popular poets over the last three or four centuries - "poems that live" indeed. Had I stumbled upon a more academic or less populist selection at such an age, I might never have developed the love for poetry that I did. In those days, I must have read "The Highwayman" aloud a dozen times. This is still probably my favorite anthology of poetry to date, and I continue to pick it up from time to time.

This is a great collection of poems. Well worth having in your home library! I keep it on my bedside table and read one or two poems a night. I always find new meaning or relevance based on what is going on in my life. Simply a great collection.

There are wonderful poems here, but it seems to me that of all the genres, poetry suffers the most when it is read by a robotic text-to-speech voice.
