Cotton candy - cute, fluffy, sweet, and mostly air. But, I went in to this book expecting that, so I have no complaints. I like cotton candy! I just don't happen to like going to any of the places where cotton candy lives like crowded fairs, crowded zoos, crowded amusement parks.... Hmm, I guess wherever you see a crowd - cotton candy will be there. Yes, cotton candy. I love you, cotton candy!I found this book when browsing Listopia for funny paranormal reads, and I got what I came for: funny characters, insta-love, vampire first-world problems, and an easily-resolved conflict with a HEA. There was no thinky-thinky involved. I didn't have to engage my brain. I don't have a book hangover. I don't have to examine big issues or wonder what the hell am I doing with my life... (what the hell AM I doing with my life? *sigh*) It was just a cute diversion. I'll read some more of these. I'm not doing anything else with my life.NO! Go away, Clippy, I hate you!

Alexis has come to Ethan Carrick's casino to pry her sister from his life. Her sister, Brittany, has left her career and home to come be his arm candy. Alexia knows that he has brainwashed her sister, so she's ready to do anything necessary to remove her. That includes acting in a manner that would get most people arrested. That right there is when I started to get a bad feeling about this book. Alexis is some awesome prosecuting attorney, but she barges into the situation with the subtlety of a brick upside the head. I guess she was cast as an attorney to make her look smart without having to actually act smart. This book had some cute moments, especially in the beginning. It wasn't really Alexis that was funny though. She was brash and irritating. It was Ethan's reaction to her comments that was cute. Apparently no one has ever, in all his 900 years, thought he wasn't hot. So, watching him puff up with pride and offended male dignity was cute. But, as soon as he decided there were feelings involved in his desire to seduce Alexis he stopped being funny. He turned into someone who would rub noses with you and coo. Brittany, the sister, was dumb. She wasn't cute and kind of dim, she was just dumb. She also didn't seem to be bothered by anything. You want to control her mind and kidnap her? No biggie, it's cool. She finds out you're a vampire - that's cool, how about I save you from your horrible existence. Every encounter was like that. It was really weird. What was up with the French vampire? Did he really have to talk like that to convey he was French? Those "ze" and "iz" and "zat" expressions were really irritating.Alexis made a comment when rejecting vampirism that I found really odd. She said she couldn't continue her work or see Brittany's future kids if she was a vampire. Why exactly was she excluded from doing those things if she was a vampire? The way vampires are written in these books there's nothing holding them back from any of that. They can move around in sunlight and they don't have to sleep at night. She knows this, she hung out with Ethan outside during the day. I just thought it was weird. My biggest problem with this book was the fact that they fell in love with each other. This book took place in what, a week or two? In that short time they've found true love and are going to live together for the rest of eternity? Does that strike anyone else as rushing things? If this book would have ended with them wanting to see where their relationship was going I would have found it a lot more believable. I thought the ending was really weird. There's a big crisis that happens really close to the end, but there's no closure in this book. It just...ends. I guess it will be solved in the next book, but I still think it's weird. There was a lot of nothing happening in this book, but when something finally does happen it ends before that can be hashed out.

This review was posted at Under the CoversI've been wanting to read this series for quite some time now, mainly because I looooooove Erin McCarthy's writing in her contemporary stuff and this one looks like fun. And it was fun. Just not exactly what I expected, maybe? So we have Ethan Carrick who is the head of the vampire council and running for re-election. He's campaign manager recommended that he should get married and settle down in order to give a good image while running for re-election. And he finds the perfect candidate. Brittany Baldizzi is a dentist, she's sweet, giving, a good person. She is also an Impure, half vampire half human, although she's not aware of it. She should fit the bill perfectly. Except she doesn't stir any interest in Ethan. After he controlled her mind to have her living with him (at his casino hotel at any rate) her sister Alexis comes in guns blazing to rescue her sister. And now that is exactly what Ethan was looking for. A woman with fire and passion that can challenge him. But she is not good for his image. While dealing with all this, they will also have to deal with assassination attempts on Ethan. So now the storyline was cute, it's fun and light and humorous. Ethan is pretty sexy although I wouldn't drop any of my other harem hotties to fit him in. But Alexis got a bit on my nerves at times. Yes, sometimes there CAN be too much snark. The ending was a bit abrupt as well, all of a sudden all these things happened and then they were spending eternity together.I am still very much intrigued to see what happens in the next book, although I can say that this series can't compare to Fast Track.

The heroine may be short and she may be a bit chubby but goddamn it she is a feisty woman with the tenacity of a pit-bull, especially when it comes to protecting her baby sister. So when her naïve and innocent little sis gets wrapped up with rich playboy types in Las Vegas, the heroine has no hesitation storming the gates. She demands to see her sister, threatening to kick ass if anyone tries to stop her. When she meets the hero, her sisters 'boyfriend' she is immediately struck by how much she dislikes the man. He's a stereotype. He's sexy, he's rich and he's far too self assured for the heroine's tastes. Plus, she knows his type. He's the sort of man to use her sister and dump her when he's tired of her and that's something the heroine will not allow. Growing with the mother they had, the heroine is hell bent on not being anything like that woman but also sheltering her sister from the pain it caused. The hero, a 900 year old vampire running for the presidency of the vampire nation, needs the heroine's sister because his image needs a domestic upgrade. He's is absolutely stunned by the hurricane that has swept into his neat and orderly life and he's not quite sure how to take this woman. She's short, first of all. Only coming to his chest. She is stunningly beautiful but obviously has no idea. She is by far the most honest and brutally critical woman he's ever met and she obviously can not stand him. Not used to this sort of reaction in females he is intrigued. He makes her a deal. He will send her sister home if the heroine will take her place as his girlfriend. They fake this relationship for votes but he is honestly falling in love with her. She shares the pain of her childhood and his tenderness and reliability sweep her away. They begin to date for real and soon fall in love. But when an assassin starts wreaking havoc on their new found happiness, the heroine must decide between succumbing to the darkness of being a vampire or lose the life she's come to love and the man who's come to mean the world to her. This book hovered between a 3 and 4 star for the majority of the story. On one hand, this plotline is so not innovative or unique in anyway. On the other hand, the humor and the general absurdity that is the heroine made me enjoy myself and laugh along. Normally I tend not to like this character type. The obnoxious, sassy female sort tends to get on my nerves. However, this heroine pulled it off without making me hate her by the end. The major fact that tipped the scales is her short stature. She's had to fight and claw her way to the top all her life. She had to battle her upbringing- as a child of a stripper who shouldn't have had children-, her physical chubbiness and height. As well as her insecurities and lonely life of thinking she can trust no one and that she has no one to rely on. The hero changed all that. He gave her the confidence she had lost and also a shoulder to lean on when times got hard. The hero was a calm and subdued character. He never lost his temper or got angry over the heroine antics and from the start he knew she was his chosen one. He was at times too serious and she gave him back the ability to laugh. They made a great couple and had great chemistry. I rated it a 4 because it was not a perfect 5- what with the lackluster storyline- and it was not a 3 because I did love the characters and overall humor of the story.

~* 3.5 Stars *~Erin McCarthy's Vegas Vampire series opener, High Stakes, is one of those light, funny vamp romances that can be gulped down in large bites and leave you feeling a little happier for it. It's been described as Vamp Chick-Lit and that just about sums it up.And there's nothing wrong with that! I strongly believe that reaction to this book in particular, and probably the series in general, will entirely depend on what you're looking for when you pick it up. Personally, I just spent several weeks reading back-to-back books that ranged from gritty and dark to emotionally significant and I just wanted to rest my brain, kick back with a book that made me laugh and know from page one that the two lead characters are going to get their HEA. No draining angst or cruel deceptions, no monstrous forces of every nature threatening world-ending horror. A laugh here (and here and here) and a grin there (and there and there and there) was exactly what I needed. Erin McCarthy delivered. In fact, that's rather what I read McCarthy for. It's what I call brain candy.I was actually pleasantly surprised that this series opener had a wee bit more depth than I was anticipating, with the plot threads of the presidential party platform, the banished Frenchman, and the deadly political opponent. Was it high drama? No. Was it enough to sink my teeth in and interest me enough to keep reading the series? Yes. If I wanted to be critical, I suppose I could point to Alexis' sister, Brittany, who came off a little too...borderline-zealot with her ditzy crusade to redeem the undead. That was not to my personal tastes. Scenes with her were actually a little painful. I could also possibly criticize the rather abrupt wrap up, almost like McCarthy got to a certain point and just...forced the HEA to fit within a certain page count. Yeah, okay, those two things kept the book from getting five stars, but High Stakes is still a delicious bite of brain candy and I liked the overall experience of reading it. It was exactly what I was looking for. ~*~*~*~Reviewed for One Good Book Deserves Another.

Um, I'm not sure what to make of this. I was expecting better?I didn't think the characters were strong at all. I felt almost no chemistry between Ethan and Alexis. Sure, there were some sparks, but I think Alexis flies way off the handle a little too much for my taste. I didn't feel a dept to the characters as I was expecting.I thought the plot weak. Other than getting Alexis to fall for Ethan and winning the election, I didn't really see much of a story here. There were a few action scenes that made the book worth reading, I suppose. *SPOILER ALERT* And Alexis gave in way too easy for my taste. The way McCarthy wrote it, it was like inevitable - it was going to happen one way or the other. I wasn't impressed. Those who know me know that I'm not really big on straight romance. I need that certain 'oomph' of suspense and action or I'm just not really into it. For those who love romance, you might like it. For me, it was okay - just not a wow for me.

This book was a really fun, light read. I loved the character's rapport with one another, and I found myself laughing out loud at some of the witty conversations they had with one another. Plus, I really liked the way the hero and heroine came to trust, like and then love one another. I found myself caring about them and the outcome of their romance.I really like(love) a deep, dark vampire romances...this is not one of those books. But, I liked the sweetness about it, and the ease that Erin brought me as the reader into the vampire world and their traditions. I think even if you aren't a fan of paranormal romances, this book is still something that you would like.I have ordered the rest in this series and I can't wait to read them!

This book I already read in the past from the library, but I wanted to have it myself too and that is why I ordered and read it again.Alexis is used to protecting her sister. That is why she takes her place next to Ethan. That she feels attracted to him, has nothing to do with it. By the way he is a bit crazy, because he pretends to be a vampire. Till she finds out that he really is a vampire. At that point she still doesn’t now what to do with the attraction between them. For the answer on what she is going to do you have to read the book yourself. It is again an easy book to read. With this series it is handy to read the books in the following they are written, because of the things happening in the books.

This is a fun read. Not meant to be particularly serious. The characters are very exaggerated, but that's what makes it so funny. Ethan, president of the vampire nation, is looking for a wife before the upcoming election. He has chosen Brittany, but her protective sister Alexis steps in. The sparks fly right away between the two, though Alexis is the exact opposite of what he is looking for in a wife. A funny, steamy book, with just the right amount of surprising twists to keep things interesting. I'd like to check out the rest of the series.

I really liked this book because it was fast paced and made me laugh out loud.Alexis is a feisty woman who gets and does what she wants.Ethan is vampire who is almost a thousand years old and has never fallen in love or met the "one" for him. This is a fast paced love story that has the couple in love and wed in a matter of weeks. Believable? No... but hey it's a vampire romance book for crying out loud.I really liked the book and will continue on with the series.

I really enjoyed this book. I laughed out loud and did a lot of smiliing. It was a light, sexy read that I looked forward to picking up. I loved Ethan and Alexis, both were witty, while one was charming the other was a smart ass and it worked. yYou'll love the chemistry between the two. Do yourself a favor and pick up this book, it's hot, it's charming and it's funny. Enjoy, I sure did.Highly Recommend!!!

I liked this book. The idea of vampires in Vegas is intriguing since I live in Vegas and I could see how it would be the perfect city for them to inhabit. Alexis was a bit strong, but weighed out by Ethan's cool demenour. They were fun to read about and the idea of vampire politics was interesting. Alexis' sister Brittany grated on my nerves a bit. She seemed too dimwitted instead of innocent for my tastes. Overall a great read.

I learned from this books that I cannot stand vampire fluff. I thought since I enjoy MaryJanice Davidson that I would enjoy Erin's books, but I'm thinkin' no. Her characters tend to over react and scream at each other. I feel like I'm watching Pokemon when I read this book. From now on I will have to be picky with my vampire romance.

Complete Review available on at blog: https://pennedperspective.blogspot.co...******************Spoilers Ahead********************* High Stakes introduces readers to Ethan and Alexis. These two meet when Ethan uses influence to persuade Alexis’ younger sister Brittany to move into his casino. Ethan is the President of Vampires and needs Brittany to help secure support for his re-election. Alexis comes to rescue her sister and hilarity ensues. The GoodAlexis and Ethan are really funny together. Alexis calls him Garlic while he addresses her as BB (Ball Buster). They spend the book sparing both verbally and physically. Plus, their scenes together were hot!!!I loved that she was a super serious career woman, a prosecutor who has practically raised her baby sister. The character is strong and can take care of herself both physically and mentally. Alexis is well fleshed out, we know why she feels the way she does. The author uses Alexis and Brittany’s childhood to depict how different the girls are and why.The story also introduces Brittany, Seamus, the Frenchman, and Ethan’s opponent for the office. I enjoyed their roles and the interactions between them. The story moved between characters well allowing enough time on the main stage for each character. The Not So GoodThe ending!! I hate cliffhangers. I get that the author wants you to follow the story to the next book in the series, but I have some questions. How does Alexis adjust to her new life? What about Brittany? Does the next book continue with their story or move the story to another couple? The story wrapped up a bit too quickly pace wise.

(Im a spoiler..Beware) Common things: Huh, governmental vampire nation. Most vampire books have that, so I dont really think its weird. What else.. Oh yeah! The 'chosen' person for you. In other words, Soulmate. And again, there is a bunch of books I can name that has soulmates in it. Hmm. What else. The vampire-cant-be-seen-on-recordings thing. Well, theres not much books that applies that to vampires but I guess some.. I know another one! Vampire plus Vampire equals no baby but Vampire plus Mortal equals an Impure/half vamp half human baby. Ending: Ethan and Alexis gets married. Alexis is a turned vampire.Characters: Ethan Carrick: president of the Vampire Nation and of course vampire(rebirth nine hundred years ago.. born in 1067- the son of a Norman lord and his new Anglo-Saxon wife),had been born before the bubonic plague(has never been married- but use to be the player type),owner of a casino- The Ava,tall,blond,blue-eyed,muscular,long and lean chest and arms,british-accented,has to choose a wife and settle down.Seamus Fox: vampire(370 years old),Ethan's friend and campaign manager, had short dark hair- trimmed neatly, dark blue eyes, was Ethan's best man at his wedding.Gwenna: vampire, pale ethereal figure, thin frame,Ethan's sister, came to Ethan's wedding.James: the vampire guard at the casino, tall dark and handsome.Peter: vampire, had been a Russian diplomat under the czar, thickly accented English, big belly.Isabella: vampire, the head of the council for the preservation of the undead.Donatelli/Roberto: was born half-vampire half-mortal and was turned later in life,Ethan's opponent,Italian, frame is so lean its like a woman's.Ringo: in his early thirties, lean, been a sniper in the Marines, Italian, works for Donatelli(was hired to shoot Ethan.. which he did but missed the heart),is attracted to Kelsey as she is to him, when not completing the deal he was turned by Donatelli's guards as punishment.Smith: vampire, one of Donatelli's workers, when leaving Kelsey's body on Ethan's balcony Alexis came in and found him(while she was naked waiting for Ethan)and he stabbed her on accident(while eyeballin her goods).Kelsey: vampire(thirty years a vampire),receptionist at Ethan's casino, pretty face, shiny black hair, breasts that were too large to be natural on her thin frame, part Italian, flirted and was used for info by Ringo(she found out he was gunna kill Ethan and ran away to tell), wanted to help Ringo get out of his deal with Donatelli so she followed him over there and was shot and killed by the guards, her body was put on Ethan's balcony by Smith and was found by Alexis.William: vampire,Ethan's security advisor.Corbin Jean Michel Atelier: vampire(is Britt's crush),french-canadian, a research physician(is trying to find the cure to vampirism so that he could turn back to mortal),was caught feeding from a woman by Britt(he tryed to mind-control her to make her forget but it didnt work), brilliant green-gray eyes, lean with caramel brown hair that was a touch long, tall, dark, thin lips,inch-long white scar at the base of his chin, elegant bone structure and proportioned face,is banished from vampire-related things but is allowed by Ethan to live at his hotel if causing no trouble(he killed a mortal woman- breaking one of the vamp laws),took Britt's blood for testing and the result was love-making(he bit her and that marked her as his's).Dr. Brittany Baldizzi: half vampire/Impure(daughter of a mortal mother and a vampire father),perky dentist, sleek dark hair, high cheekbones, glowing eyes, tall, slender, fair skin, sweet, pleasant, intelligent, very feminine, very pliable and innocent, her biological father seduced a married woman(Alexis's mother) and then left her prego with Brit, was guided/mind controled by Ethan into agreeing to meet him at his hotel and to bring a packed overnight bag(she was brainwashed into moving to Las Vegas with him),found out herself that Ethan and the people at his casino are vampires.Alexis Baldizz: county prosecutor and Brittany's older sister and also Ethan's chosen one,flat-out short(not much higher than Ethan's shoulder),wispy blond hair, curvy, blue eyes, dimples, perky nose, pink lips, thirty, mother died of a drug overdose,is immune to mind reading, when not seeing her sister for three weeks she goes to find her- which leads to Ethan, makes a deal with Ethan- Britt gets to go home and she'll take her place as Ethan's for a week, gets turned into a vampire by Ethan willingly when she was about to die b/c of the stab from Smith.Pages: 267-k 311-k 399-s 435-s britt >> 472-k

Ok, so I got such a kick out of this book. I know it’s silly, but it was so much fun. I think part of it is the fact that I was just in the mood for something light hearted and that doesn’t take itself too seriously. No heavy drama just lots of maybe slightly over the top life changing events. Ethan Carrick is a vampire, not only that he’s the President of all vampires and it’s an election year. It’s been decided that the thing he needs more than any other is to find a nice wife to have on his arm and increase his public image. Ethan’s decided he’s found the perfect prospect too, she sweet, wonderfully good-natured and to top it all off she’s an Impure, not that she knows that. The only problem, Brittany bores Ethan to tears. Of course everything changes when her half sister walks in the door. Alexis is nothing like her sister, she’s fiery, exceedingly independent, and a top notch prosecuting attorney. Alex is more likely to fight kicking and karate chopping than to back down from anything. All that attitude does is manage to intrigue the pants off of Ethan. ‘Course all Alex’s wants is to get her sister out of there. With that in mind she agrees to take Ethan’s deal, take her sister’s place for a week as his date at his political events and Brittany walks out of the hotel no strings attached. Brittany for her parts is a little worried about leaving her sister with the vampires, a story Alex doesn’t believe for one moment…yet…Ok so this book is a little ridiculous with some thing left a little under explained but I just didn’t care. It was fun and made me smile. It was exactly what I wanted to read in moment and will definitely have me reading more of Ms. McCarthy’s books. I liked that Alexis was a kick butt pint sized bit of attitude and fire. I liked how smacked upside the noggin Ethan was over her. They were really cute as a couple in that they weren’t all sweetness and light, but instead were all spitfire and snarky. There’s just something incredibly amusing about the idea of the seat of all vampire power residing in Las Vegas of all places. I mean city of sin and you’re in charge of trying to keep vamps in line. *giggle* Of course there is no place better to lose yourself and reinvent when you’ve lived for centuries. Why not own a casino? I enjoyed the backdrop of a presidential election as the basis for these two to come together. I mean it makes complete sense for Ethan to need a pretty wife on his arm this time around. Gotta keep the constituents happy after all. ☺I think if there was one weakness in this story for me it was that I never felt quite sure what all the factions were. Clearly Ethan’s presidential opponent is evil and a douchebag, but I would have liked to know more about what being Impure meant to the society and what that portion of the constituents were looking for out of the election. I wanted to know more about Corbin and what happened to him to make him banished; also what he wants to do with his research. There were just details that could have been more fleshed out and I would have gobbled them up.Clearly there were a number of potential side stories being put into play with this initial book, Brittany obviously being one of them. She’s a little weak as a character for my personal liking. She reminds me of those perfect fragile doll types without a thought in her head who stumbles into trouble all the time because she’s trying so hard to be good and helpful, but doesn’t have a clue. I much prefer Alexis’ balls to the wall approach, but they’re a good foil for each other. I’m definitely interested in seeing where this goes in future books. Also the introduction right at the end (view spoiler)[ of Ethan’s sister Gwenna certainly caught my attention as I’d assumed his entire family was dead at this point. (hide spoiler)]I thought the murder contract taken out on Ethan added just enough spice to this story to keep it interesting without being dripping in romantic trappings. There’s still plenty of hot sex to indulge in and all in all it’s a light humorous read. This is one of those quick reads that you want to take along with you to the beach somewhere. Turn your brain off and indulge yourself in some frivolous fun. For me, right now, that was perfect!

Her little sister is gorgeous, but not always bright when it comes to men, and it is up to Alexis to rescue her from herself. Brittany should marry an accountant and settle down, not become a rich man’s newest plaything! But Brittany doesn’t want to go home, she has discovered that Ethan and his people are vampires, and she wants to save them. Ethan was planning on making Brittany his wife. He is the currant vampire president, and is running a campaign to be re-elected for the next 40 years. Brittany is an Impure (half vampire, half human), and as such, would be politically talking, perfect as his wife. But even though she is gorgeous, she is not doing anything for him, which is why he hasn’t slept with her yet. But her sister, now she is something else. She tries to kick the hell out of him, to make him back off. And so he makes a bargain with her: if she plays his platonic girlfriend for a week, he will send Brittany home. Alexis is certain she can withstand his amazing looks and physique, and she wants Brittany out of here. So on her own terms, she accepts. And that Brittany thinks they are all vampires, that is just a bunch of nonsense, and makes them geeky roleplayers. But Ethan is determined to woo Alexis, she must be his one true mate, as he cannot hear her thoughts at all. Brittany is an open book for him, but Alexis is shielded tight. When Ethan is shot in the heart though, and she fears for his life, Alexis finds out differently when Ethan heals before her eyes. Can she deal with all this? I enjoyed this book, it is light and humorous, and I loved the kick ass Alexis. She has a black belt, and loves practicing her moves on Ethan. Who at first tries to be noble, but when she keeps coming at him, seriously has to defend himself. Alexis and Brittany had a lousy childhood, with a mother who is a stripper, and keeps searching for a man. Alexis was the one who raised Brittany, and has always been protective of her. She is though, has serious commitment problems, and doesn’t think she will ever marry. The fact that Ethan is seriously interested in her is a miracle. She is not tall and willowy, but short and curvy. Yes, low self esteem in the looks department here. And then there is Ethan, 900 years old, and falling in love for the first time. Of course he has trouble adjusting to that state, and being patient. Waiting for Alexis to make up her mind, and choose for a relationship with him for real, instead of the one week deal. I liked him, he really wants to be a good president. There is a bad guy, who also wants to be president, to control the vampire world, and make them public so they can rule humanity. A campaign manager who is very stuffy. A human assassin who can’t understand why Ethan is still alive, and the young female vampire he fell for. A second storyline with Brittany and the French vampire she likes. I do think that his one will play out in the second book in the series, keep a watch out for the review of it. All in all, it was fun, never really predictable and still full of action, and of course, hot vampire love scenes. If you are in the mood for something light and funny, I do recommend this series. I really enjoyed this book.8 stars.© 2013 Reviews by Aurian Full review on my blog, www.boeklogboek.blogspot.com

I couldn't get past 12%. I didn't like that this author stayed on the same topic for too long. It was annoying.

I had to grudgingly admit (this is coming from someone who runs away from the romance shelves) I actually liked this book. Alexis is a great likable character; she's got wit, she's stubborn as an ox, she knows how to fight back (literally), and her sense of humor is hilarious. With a main character like that, it was thanks to her that got me so interested in this book I read at least more than half of it in one morning and then finished it the next day. The plot was all right. It does follow the typical romance genre standard plot line but the characters are likable and engaging and they provided so much entertainment, I found myself chuckling a couple of times because of Alexis and Ethan and how they felt about each other at first, and their banter was extremely entertaining. Although the sub-plot of several of Ethan's enemies trying to oust him from running for President is interesting, I actually wished they focused more on that plot instead of having to spotlight the main couple all the time. It left me with a lot of questions and now that certain events now happened regarding some of his enemies, I really want to know what's going to happen next. What bugged me was, although they were some trying to kill Ethan, it seemed as if both Ethan and Alexis didn't really care, they were too busy being in love with each other - which caused me to roll my eyes in frustration. Yes, I do realize this is a romance novel, but the intrigue plot is so interesting, why give that up to showcase the couple? wouldn't the plot to kill Ethan be just as exciting?I also liked the plot with Brittany and Corbin. I thought they made such a cute couple and I was actually wanting more of those two instead of Ethan and Alexis, sure they were fun to read, but as soon as the "mushy stuff" came in, I just wanted them to move on and wanted to learn more about Corbin and his "research". Although Brittany strikes me a terribly naive and a little on the ditzy side, you can't help but like her because it's like she doesn't have a bad thought for anybody and nothing seems to ruin her day. She's such an exact opposite of Alexis but it's nice to see, so at least you don't see the book through eyes of one side all the time. There are love scenes for those that enjoy that sort of thing, I particularly don't care much for them, so those were skipped. They do become more frequent as Alexis and Ethan are closer together towards the end of the book. It does get old, and tiring and the plot just remains stagnant with those two. I do admit, they do make a nice couple. (Although upto the point where they got mushy I switched to preferring Brittany and Corbin). The other problem I do have is it was predictable in some parts. Oh well. I actually expected that in this story. It wasn't bad enough to ruin my enjoyment of the novel.Overall, it was a nice light read despite some pitfalls. I was able to tolerate it and I enjoyed it because of such entertaining characters. The story and plot could have used some work though. Those that love romance with vampires in it, give this a try. It's on the light side so don't expect things to get too dark.

I give up. I just couldn't connect to the characters. I didn't like how the story went nor do I like the writing style. This book just wasn't my cup of tea.
