I read a good portion of this for a class on the world's religions. I read the articles on Hinduism, Islam, Buddhism (which was a bit muddy and over-specific), Chinese religions, (traditional) African religions, and Judaism. Since I am studying at a Christian seminary, we did not work with the chapter on Christianity. At a cursory glace it seems thorough, but very long (over 100pp, I believe). All-in-all, this is a wonderful resource. It is academically informative and reliable, yet accessible for someone like me who knew virtually nothing about most of these religions before I read about them here. The guide is objective in outlook, yet fair in articulating each religion on its on terms. It is also very useful as a fairly quick reference.

"The New Penguin Handbook of Living Religions" is one of the books in the primary bibliography of my free ebook on comparative mysticism. "The greatest achievement in life" at suprarational.org/gail2012.pdf has been reviewed on Goodreads. This is one of the best references for modern religions. Each religion is summarized and analyzed by an expert in the scholarship of that religion.
