Every bit as enjoyable as its companion volume on boys' prep schools. There was something very special about that generation of women who, having lost their boyfriends, fiancés, and husbands in the First World War; dedicated their lives to give the best educational upbringing possible to the next generation. Their motives were noble, and, I think, they very largely succeeded; though as the reminiscences in this book prove, a little more in the way of explanation to their charges might (or might not) have assisted?

A charming book compiled from the author's interviews with and letters from English women who went to boarding schools. It can be sad or poignant, but mostly it's bust-a-gut funny.
