I won this book from Goodreads' FirstReads program, and am so glad I did. It's based on the popular children's song of the same name. My young children love this song, and before now I never knew all of the words. So, it's helped me with that! LOL More importantly - at least so far as other people are concerned - the book is BEAUTIFUL! I absolutely LOVE the illustrations! They are so cute and so pretty, and I love the colors used, too. My children love this book and likely will spend lots of time looking through the colorful, fun, GORGEOUS illustrations!

A wonderful read from my childhood, one I’d certainly suggest for other youngsters. Whilst it is not my all-time favourite childhood read I can still recall all the details of this one meaning it certainly left a lasting impression upon my young mind. And isn’t that what we want with children’s books, for them to leave a positive lasting impression?

This is a fantastic version of the well known jingle. Every preschooler and kindergartener should own it. I can't say enough about this book. The illustrations are priceless. Add this book to your little one's shelf.

With awesome illustrations, 5 little speckled frogs shows children math in a sing-song way. This book can be used in early lower school math lessons as a read aloud with an attached lesson.

Awards if any: No known awards.Appropriate grade levels: Appropriate for children in preschool to 1st grade. 3 Line Summary : A nursery rhyme about five little speckled frogs that were sitting on a speckled log and they were eating bugs. One jumped off into the pool and then there were only 4. This repeats until there are no more frogs on the log. 3 Line review: This can be a fun interactive nursery rhyme for young children. The rhyme and repetition of the nursery rhyme will help them remember it for future reference. Students will want to move along and pretend to be like frogs as well.2-3 possible in class usesStudents can create their own "speckled frog" and attach them to Popsicle sticks. They can go through the nursery rhyme while moving their own frogs and have them jump off logs. This would be a great nursery rhyme for younger students that need to practice counting to 5. There can be physical toy frogs that they can count as they go through the nursery rhyme. This is the perfect poem when students are introduced to animals such as frogs and other amphibians.

Five Little Speckled FrogsIllustrated by Nikki SmithWhenever I hear the song Five Little Speckled Frogs I immediately go back to when I was a kid and my Daddy would play it on his guitar and I would sing along. When I saw that Nikki had illustrated the song in a book, my hand shot up and hollered ME, ME.. I would love to review it! Yes I have some personal attachment to the song Nikki took a simple kids song and created a splashing good time! Her illustrations are simple, yet fun. The frogs on the page pop out at you as in a collage scene. I loved their long pink tongues when they were catching bugs. The only thing I wish was that Nikki would have made a different drawing each time a frog jumped into the pool (where it was nice and cool !) rather than reusing the same one each time. I think it would have been more creative to add them jumping in differently. I just love sitting and singing the song with my little ones and showing them the book as I showcase this great song for a new generation!Nikki graciously sent me a copy of this book to review. You can find her books and more information on this great illustrator at http://www.nikkismithbooks.com/
