Although this is classed as I children's book I really wouldn't recommend anyone under the age of 13 reading it, mainly due to it havibg a very dark theme to it. I was 16 when I read this and I absolutely adored it. It's one of those books that's impossible to put down, and it has new twists in every chapter. I definitely recommend this book.

It was a pretty dark story for a children genre. But I like the part when Meg used her Maker's ability. Over all I give 3.5 stars for this one.

While this book is marked as a children's book, it was definitely a dark book. It should be a teen book with the supernatural, creepy theme and the old fashioned language. Though the author does include a glossary in the back if you're wondering what some words mean that have fallen out of regular use. This book had a solid storyline, where Meg is accused of witchcraft and runs away to avoid capture. The whole point of the book was for Meg to explore her powers as a Maker and to find her father. Yet things get complicated. Men are searching for her and her father, wanting them both dead as punishment for demonstrating witchcraft. All poor Meg wants to do is find her father, but she finds so much more. She learns that she isn't a witch, but a Maker. She brings life into her dolls, life that helps her escape death. On her mission, she meets Simon, a boy plagued by visions, and Ned, a funny, jolly man who enjoys cross-dressing. This book does get weird, especially at the end. The powers and the dolls are definitely odd, not something an author has ever used before. The idea of this book is original and quite simple. The author could have pulled off this book as an amazing story, but he includes things that rubbed me the wrong way. There are multiple characters, so many that it's hard to keep track of them all! Some characters are used very briefly and abruptly disappear. Some characters I forgot about until they suddenly reappeared back in the book, but I had already forgotten who they were. The ending was fast, too fast for my liking. The ending had left things unresolved that I hope will be fixed in the next book, if there is one.One question kept bugging me during the whole book: what is up with Patience? Is she faking her possession like some people did during the actual Salem Witch Trials, or is she actually possessed? If so, then by whom/?I hope there's a sequel so it can answer my question. I definitely will read the sequel though. I can't leave this alone!

I found this really interesting... Not a book I would normally read but I really liked it. People jumping to the conclusion of witchcraft at every little thing. The folks the Meg encounters are fantastic. Simon is a great character, as is Ned. Of course, the evil folks are evil and suitably creepy. Not a bad read.

I read this book when I was twelve or thirteen and absolutely loved it! it was dark and sent chills up my spine and had comedy with lovable characters. It was a brilliant read and I would recommend it to anyone!

Certainly dark and with a degree of historical accuracy that I imagine would be a barrier to some children. Really loved the concept and hoped there would be a sequel but that doesn't seem to b a possibilty.

I enjoyed it, it was a quick read. It's supposed to be "children's" book but I'm not sure I'd let anyone too young read it.

The blurb sounded interesting, but the book itself was just too weird. Didn't like it much.

This book is different to other books. I am surprised it is under the childrens section as a very dark tale indeed. Very enjoyable.
