Dragon Moon (The Moon Series, Book 9) by Rebecca York Paranormal Romance- Oct. 6, 20094 ½ starsThis was an outstanding story from start to finish. I could not put it down. Rebecca York is breaking into her stride with the 9th book in her werewolf series. I feel this book can be read alone but would probably be richer and easier from having read her previous books since characters from her previous books reappear. Kenna is from an alternate universe where magic is common place. Her future appears bright until she is taken to live as a slave by the ruthless and evil Vandar. Vandar is a shape shifting dragon who drinks blood to live. Vandar is ruthless and demands absolute obedience. Although he does not need human blood to survive he thrives on draining his human servants and keeping them in fear and servitude. His power is absolute but now he has discovered a portal to a new world that is lush with riches. And a place where magic is virtually unknown. This vunerable new world is called earth. Vandar has sent men to scout for the details he needs before he attacks and plans to increase his empire but the men have returned useless for his needs. As an alternate Vandar decides to send a beautiful woman and chooses his slave Kenna. Surely with her beauty she will have an easier time seducing men and infiltrating information from the alternate universe he plans to conquer. To ensure her compliance Vandar places strong and painful mind blocks on Kenna to prevent her from escaping and telling earthlings of his mission to conquer earth. After training to learn about earth Kenna is thrust across the portal and immediately falls into danger when a tree falls on her during a storm. She is befriended by a wolf who mysteriously disappears. Desperate, Kenna tries to use her powers to lift the tree off her but fortunately a human man comes to her aid. Kenna discovers the mysterious man’s name is Talon. The 2 find a mutual attraction but Talon feels Kenna is holding something back and although he hides a secret about himself (being a werewolf) he knows he can’t trust Kenna unless she reveals the strange ‘gaps’ in her memory. Kenna loves how kindly Talon treats her especially after her brutal life under Vandar’s rule. She tries to break through her conditioning but cannot tell Talon her mission as a spy. But even as their relationship stand at an impasse the dangerous Vandar is growing impatient and trouble looms for the 2.This was a fascinating story that flew by quickly. The villain was completely evil. The heroine courageous, beautiful and valiant. And the alpha hero understanding and protective. This story was quite complex and I was amazed by the Rebecca York’s facile storytelling skills. My favorite sections included the relationship between Talon and Kenna. They were clearly meant for each other. However, I found Kenna’s courage the most captivating section of the novel. When she is confronted by an alien world she uses what skills she has to survive and her conscience and courage carry the story. This was a fabulous addition to Rebecca York’s werewolf series and already one of my favorites. If you love werewolf romances this one is a must read. Rebecca York really heightened the stakes in her latest installment and I eagerly await details of her next book. I hope it will include the wounded dragon shifter Raymond!Reviewed by Steph from the Bookaholics Romance Book Club

This is such a fun series as we get to see the Marshall clan change and work together as a group as has not been done before in their family history. This book is no different.Kenna is from the alternative universe, which when I first read this thought the idea was stupid but as the series goes on I love to see the differences and how the two people interact with each other and all the foreign concepts they must deal with. Talon and Kenna manage fine, but as Talon knows she is hiding things reluctantly calls his cousin Ross, the defacto head of family.Once Ross and the rest of the clan is brought in it becomes clear what they are up against. Navigating their more basic instincts they manage to work together and face things they really didn't know were out there. In the end they do come out on the better side.

This was a very cool book with a mix of genres. You had some paranormal, romance, and sci-fi all mixed into this book.I thought it was least I've never read another book like it. This author really did a great job combining the mix of genres and making it work.I loved the main characters, Talon and Kenna, boy...did these two have to go through some crud to reach their happy ending! You know what I thought was really interesting with this one? The whole alternate universe thing...It was different and really added interest to the book. This was the first book I've had the opportunity to read in the Moon Series by Rebecca York but I think I'll be looking up the rest of the series.Overall, I was really happy with this one!

I was prepared to give this book at least a 4. Then we got to pages 243-248 and well...if an author can't keep her own characters straight -- sorry, I take points off for sloppy editing.

Kenna, a mysterious psychic visitor from another universe, is slave to a terrible master, and she has come to prepare for an invasion the likes of which our universe has never seen. In Talon Marshall, a powerful werewolf, Kenna finds a potential confidant, but she is unable to reveal to him the terrible secret that is her mission. Talon is powerfully drawn to this stranger, but his senses tell him to keep up his guard before he grows to close. He longs to possess her; she longs for his help, but can they learn to trust each other? Can she find a way to communicate her grave message to him before our world and the universe itself is doomed to ruin? Dragon Moon, the latest installment in Rebecca York's extensive paranormal romance set known as the "Moon Series," tells the tale of Kenna and Talon as they are caught in a struggle for cooperation and reliance upon each other for the sake of our world. The novel, as well as the entire series, incorporates many different elements of the paranormal into the craft of the story: from werewolves to shapeshifters, your desire for the strange and otherworldly will definitely be satisfied by what York has to offer with her new work. York's fascination with werewolves stems from her reading of classic werewolf stories as a teenager, and, although the series began as "Urban Fantasy," York's series has evolved over time to involve a parellel dimension where the paranormal reigns supreme. In Dragon Moon, these two universes, ours and the parallel, are at odds. Now, only an incredible pair of beings can hope to stop the total annihilation of all that we know, but first a trust must be established between them. At the center of this dimensional conflict, there exists the striving between two people for a meaningful connection and a struggle to convey well-kept secrets. This is a major part of the power behind York's most recent romance. This intriguing and seductive novel will be well-received by fans of York's past efforts in the paranormal genre. Dragon Moon is an ideal selection for faithful readers of her "Moon Series," but general readers of fantasy romance and the paranormal are liable to appreciate this exciting story of passion and hidden intentions. Enter into York's fantasy realm and become a part of the fight for our universe.

This is my first experience with Rebecca York's writing and works. I have to say I'm reasonably impressed by both. I read the most current book instead of the first book which is something that I despise doing because I've had bad experiences with it; but this time was pleasantly surprised. I loved the mixture of two very different worlds that blended together so seamlessly. The characters were well written as well as interesting to watch grow from beginning to end. Here are my thoughts:Kenna lives in a world ruled by slavery and severe punishment from Vandar. Vandar is a truly evil monster, who rules with an ironfist, and revels in seeing people fearing him. Vandar wants to not only rule this world but all other worlds and universes too. He will stop at nothing to get what he wants no matter the cost or who he hurts in the process. He plans to send a woman to the world he wants to conquer next because the men he sent failed him miserably. He's chosen Kenna for this role of spy knowing that she can do nothing to stop his plans because of the strong mental blocks and triggers places in her mind before leaving. Kenna dreams of true freedom from Vandar and tries to build up her own mental blocks against him. Kenna also has psychic abilities such as telekinesis which she uses to help her preserve books for Vandar's uses. Talon Marshall is a werewolf, who enjoys his solitude, and wilderness expedition guide. He enjoys his work which keeps him in the outdoors and away from his family as well. He discovers a box buried in the forest near his home filled with lots of cash which he turns over the police. He's enjoying a quiet evening at home when it starts storming outside and hears a woman screaming. He rushes to find the woman trapped by fallen tree branch. Talon is stunned by the thoughts that roll thru his mind upon meeting Kenna Thomas. He wants her in his bed immediately but he can't trust his instincts about this or can he. Kenna wants nothing more than to learn about this new world and the man named Talon just not necessarily in that order. Talon knows that Kenna is keeping secrets from him and hoping that she's not trying to con him. Will Kenna learn what she needs to know? What will Vandar do with such knowledge? Will Talon trust Kenna? Will Kenna explore her feelings for Talon? Your answers to these questions and more are found in Dragon Moon.

Vandar is a vicious dragon shifter in the alternate universe. He steals slaves to work for him and for food. But his hunger for power has him planning an invasion through a portal to the Marshal’s world, but first he needs information.Kenna is chosen to be his newest spy into the other world. Training her and forcing her through the portal to use her ‘feminine talents’ to find out what she can. He also plants a mental compulsion on her using pain to ensure she does his bidding. But her training falls well short of being close to helping her in her mission. Talon Marshal has a hunting lodge in the Pennsylvania Mountains and leads group wilderness trips. Then he discovers a buried box on his land and the next day a strange girl wanders into his compound. There’s a lot of hilarious scenes of her learning how the new world works and the action battle scenes are good. But I would have liked to see more of the dragon fight.Quick Thoughts: 1) I love how all the Marshalls come together for every book to help out some way. 2) Talon sure has big lodge. I doubt he has a cleaning service but how does he clean it all by himself?Fave Scenes: Kenna’s first visit to a real kitchen, escaping the fire, the BBQ grill and meeting universe one’s dragon.

Usually I love the books in this series but this one just didnt' do it for me. I didn't feel the attraction between Kenna and Talon. To me it was more like pity and seemed as if the 'lifemate' thing was forced. There was too much going on: the stolen bank money and Mitch Sutton's revenge; Ramsay Gallagher's wackiness (and who the hell is Ramsay Gallagher); Vandar, the dragon shifter, slave keeper, ruler of the known world, blah blah blah. Totally boring story.

I have been following this series from the beginning and felt slightly disappointed in this book and yet it ends as a kind of cliffhanger. It's good that the Marshall "men" are getting used to getting together and learning to work as a unit and it's interesting to see how the wives are learning to handle not only their "man", but the group as a whole and the talents that the other wives are bringing to the group.

I was enjoying this book, right up until the author forgot to transition between the location she'd taken the characters to and their home base. I was totally thrown out of the story, flipped back and forth rereading pages, trying to figure out what I'd missed. That cost the author a lot. This book could have so much better.
