3.5 for some reason :p REASON : this story was a perfect blend of strong characters and solid plot.Yet some how this book seemed to DRAG..AND DRAG...AND DRAG..AND DRAG..well u get the picture.YEAH.yeah so this book gets a -1 from not being the ultimate awesome.and a -1.5 stars for boring me.... hence,3.5 for that reason.

Wow now I see why this had bad ratings. I forced myself to keep reading until page 53. I'm sorry but this book just drags on and on. I'm so shocked because I love this author. I never found myself not wanting to keep reading. I didn't finish it so my review is based on the beginning. The story was there just had to be juiced up a bit. It was funny at times.

I don't normally read romance novels, but I picked up this book on a whim. I was looking for a quick and enjoyable beach read; that's exactly what I found. The novel is set outside of my hometown (Albany, NY) which gained my interest from the start. The Chandler brothers are likable characters; I was completely entertained by their girl dramas. For those afraid to read it because it is labled "romance," it wasn't too steamy -- I'm the kind that gets a little embarassed by that. It was just pure entertainment.I read the 2nd book, The Player, as soon as it came out. I was waiting for the 3rd book, but forgot all about it. I'll definitely have to read it poolside during my spring break.

DNF at 25%. I couldn't get through it. I thought the premise was totally underhanded. I hated the mother immediately for it. I hate when we are told Men don't want to ever get married ever and are given no reason whatsoever. No "but I have 5 girlfriends!". No "My parents marriage was bad and taught me to fear marriage". Just no reason whatsoever. Also I hate when you are given a totally logical reason that two people aren't together and then one of them is like "but what if I disregard the other person's wishes entirely?"Having flipped through, I get that Charlotte learns to forgive her father and better understand her parents and that seems like a nice storyline, but I still can't get through it.

The story of Roman Chandler, the youngest of the three heartbreaking Chandler brothers, and Charlotte Bronson, the one that got away.Roman has been all over the world as a journalist, doing what he loves, and has every intention of continuing to do so, but a coin toss between him and his brothers changes everything. Their beloved mother whose health is ailing, (view spoiler)[less than they imagine, since she's faking most of it to get them to finally settle down, (hide spoiler)] wants them to give her grandchildren, and he's taking one for the team.Charlotte wants nothing more than planting roots with someone, having seen how unhappy her mother was due to her wanderer father's ways. So when Roman, a known wanderer, uhm... wanders back into her life, she's not very keen to let him stay, despite their history and sizzling attraction. He knows that she's not what he's looking for, yet can't resist getting close to her, and she knows that he's not what she's looking for, but can't resist him either, and the two start an affair, that makes them realize that maybe they don't know as much as they thought.A light, amusing story that introduces the Chandler brothers, with Rick, the middle brother's story coming next in The Playboy.

With Valentine's Day slowly approaching I felt like reading some light romantic novels , and what a better way to start with The Bachelor , by Ms Carly Philips . This was the first installment of the Chandler Series This is the story about the youngest Chandler brother Roman , an international journalist who enjoys his job , his freedom and his bachelorhood more than anything , but everything changes when he was called back home for a family 'emergency' and when he goes back to his hometown he gets reunited with someone special from his past that will change his world upside down . Charlotte Bronson , the heroine in the story does not want to have the same 'fate' as her mother who only found happiness whenever his wander of a father is in town , and when she gets reunited with Roman , an international journalist she was afraid of repeating her parents mistake , but some how in the end they both found the happiness they were seeking and she was the first woman to settle down with one of the Chandler men. This a lovely light romantic read and an enjoyable story a totally different style from the usual books I read , but this sure captured my attention enough to continue the entire series .

The Bachelor is the first book in the Chandler Brothers series by Carly Phillips. I really wanted to go into this book and fall madly in love. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen. However, I did get a good base for a series that I still have high hopes for. Raina Chandler is the matriarch of her family and she’ll stop at nothing to see her 3 sons settled and happy. Faking a heart condition she mentions to the boys that she is to take it easy and avoid stress. If she happens to drop the hint that grandkids would help her live a more stress free life and they take that hint and run with it, who could be hurt? The Chandler boys, being dedicated and loving sons, decide to flip a coin. The loser has to find a girl and get started on a family that none of them have any interest in. The younger 2 of the 3 participate in the coin flip agreeing that the oldest son has given up enough by passing on his own dreams to stay in their small town and take over the family business when their father passed away, unexpectedly. Roman is the lucky winner of this particular contest. This really sucks for Roman, but a deal is a deal. He figures he will find a girl, marry her, get a baby on the way and then head back to his life and career as a foreign correspondent. Afterall, he’s not made for the hometown, small life and he wouldn’t ever deceive the lucky recipient of his attentions. She will know that he’ll take care of her and the baby, he will remain faithful and he will swoop back into town when he can to play at daddy and husband. His plan is foolproof, right? He just has to find a woman that he can put up with and that wants a baby, but doesn’t require a full time helper. And all of a sudden he knew – he couldn’t say goodbye any more than he could choose another woman as his wife to bear his childrenCharlotte Bronson has settled back into her hometown of Yorkshire Falls, New York. She’s the owner of a lingerie business that is changing the attitudes and marriages of many of the small town residents. Life is as good as it can be. That is until Roman Chandler walks back into her life. He’s the one guy that makes her palms sweaty and heart beat out of control at the mere sight of him. Unfortunately, he’s also the one guy that she has to protect herself from. He’s too much like her father, who has his exciting life in Hollywood, yet deigns to come back periodically to spend some time with her waiting mother. Nope she has no desire or need to sit at home, give up her life, be the town joke and accept whatever scraps her husband feels like giving her. She just has to convince her hormones and her heart to get on board. This book wasn’t awful and it was an entertaining enough read. Some of the townspeople were very amusing and quirky. I just had a few issues with the logistics of the plot. These are 3 intelligent, worldly men, yet they just agree to give up their dreams because mommy wants grandchildren to have a less stressful life. Yet, they never consider that being the drop in dad and husband wouldn’t cause her stress? Mrs. Chandler is portrayed as a wonderful, good mother and I would agree. Yet, would a truly good and loving mother put her kids in this kind of position just because she wants to see them settled? Selfish, much? Yes, it ends up with Roman finding exactly what he wants and needs and I get as a parent you want to see your children settled and happy, but you also have to step back and let them come to these decisions in their own way and time. It just didn’t wash for me. Luckily, the writing and characters more than made up for my annoyance. I will definitely move onto the next 2 books. You can find this review at

Chandler Brothers, handsome, honorable, charming, women magnets, all against marriage though... Their father died when they were young, and Raina, their mother, mourned for a long time... (hence anti marriage - anti hurt?)... and they all love their mother a lot...Charlotte - her father left for Hollywood when she was young, her mother (frail and depressed) refused to go - but they still loved... he would come home periodically, and her mother was only really alive (lively) when he is home... and Charlotte felt abandoned by her father (that he wanted Hollywood more than her), and decided to not be like her mother, so dependent on a man for her happiness... (and only after she is in love with Roman, and dad comes home, do they tell her the truth, that mom refused each time to go to California with him, and refused to let her - feeling as if she needed her daughter more).Roman Chandler - the youngest, an AP reporter, travels the world and reports on injustices... Charlotte graduated HS, went to New York, took business classes, worked in clothing, and returned home to open her own lingerie/fun women's clothes shop (and she crochets her bras/panties for sale)... there was attraction in HS, though Charlotte was avoiding him... they had one date, they connected on a soulfull level and he shared his dreams of traveling/reporting - and she refused any more dates because she did not want to have feelings for a man who would be leaving town, like her father...and the story begins with Raina in emergency, fearful that she is having a heartattack... but its only heartburn... but her sons are on their way, and she decides to use a little deception to let her sons think she is unhealthy, and she'd really like grandchildren... so the sons decide to toss a coin to determine who will sacrifice to get married and have a grandchild... and Roman looses the toss...So Roman (who hasn't been in town for a while) is looking for a woman who would be happy to have his financial support, have his baby, and whom he could visit every once in awhile... and he runs into Charlotte... and the chemistry is still there... and after a few run ins (including a humorous scene where she is modeling her creations for her mother, and her mother leaves so that she ends up modeling for Roman - and she decides to get him out of her system, and comes on to him... but he realizes that he cares enough about her that he doesn't want to hurt her, so he says no.... ) Roman realizes he fully loves her, and wants to make a life with her - and it takes a little time to convince her that it is possible for them both to have what they need, and still be together - what they really need... ahhhhh

I read the book the Bachelor. I think the author’s purpose was to entertain, and provide a romantic fantasy for readers to escape in. I think this way because it was a fiction piece and the other books she has written have all been fiction as well. She tells a story about love and I think this has no other purpose than to entertain the reader. I think the theme of this book is: You should never give up on true love. In the story the two main characters: Roman and Charlotte are madly in love but are two completely different people who want different things. So they try to stay away from each other’s lives because they thought they knew for a fact that it would never work out. But this only made them more miserable. But in the end they compromise and end up living the happily ever after neither one of them expected. They didn't fully give up on their love, which is what the author is trying to inform her audience of. I think the style of this book was very effective. It was very detailed. She wrote the book in a way where you could feel exactly what the characters in the book were felling. For example sometimes in the book, when Charlotte saw Roman she expressed a sensation of white flaming darts going all through her. I think this style of writing is very effective because you don’t feel like you’re missing out on any detail. And it is easier to get sucked into the book. I really liked this book. I liked how likable the characters were. I liked the quick paced story line. I loved the romance. There was nothing that I really disliked about this book. The only thing I might change is I would add a sequel to this book and have it be about Roman and Charlotte’s kids. This is not like any other book I have read.

Roman Chandler, the foreign news correspondent, has returned home temporarily to find a wife and get her with child. He then intends to desert her and return to his own life of hunting down the next story. Admirably, he is doing this to appease his ill mother who wants grandkids before she dies. However, this scenario is hardly admirable. he's looking for a broodmare who will live alone with no assistance from her husband. So I really can't say that I enjoyed this book. Roman is a nice enough guy with most things but I just couldn't get past this attitude eventhough he eventually does.

Sorry it took so long, my computer was being all werid..(Chandler Brothers #1) I always like a story about a bad boy! Who don’t right? I was not 100% sure though when I first started to read The Bachelor what I was going to think about It. It does have it difficulties though. A few times, I was thinking that it could be better and others I found my self lost in the pages. There are some very interesting characters in the Bachelor. I found it a fun and sexy read in the end. I am going to have to pick up some more of these stories.Happy Reading Everyone!!

Too repetitive and annoying. Also, the best friend had sex with the hero back in high school. After the heroine dumped him. So How do you drown your sorrows and save your ego? By sleeping with her best fri nd. And yes, they are still best friends after ten years.WTF?Every couple of paragraphs we need to know how the hero doesnt want to stay in one place. And on the other paragraphs why the heroine needs stability. the mother ploy is ridiculous. Just not as ridiculous as the sons solution.

OMG!! I laughed so hard!! Raina reminds me sooo much of my great aunt. I could actually picture her in some of the scenarios, especially when discussing "her condition". My mom is reading it now and she has called a couple of times just to laugh at some of Raina's conniving shenanigans! Roman and Charlotte are amazing. I loved the whole story!

I am rating this low mainly because it was a lot more risqué than I like. I had to fast forward through an entire disk because it was a lot more explicit than I like or am used to. The story wasn't bad and really the only reason I finished the book. I was bothered that the female character blamed her life's problems on her father all the while repeating her mother's problems.

Well thank goodness that's over! This could have been a great story, but it was just too.... too everything! Too predictable! Too obvious! Too irritatingly full of clichés. And too much repetition. It was my second attempt with this author and I really did want to like it. But I nearly DNF... The series (gaah a series of this?!) starts with the youngest of three brothers from a small town. He's the stereotypical bachelor, travelling all over the world as a foreign news correspondent, and obviously running from some personal stuff at home. Commitment? Obviously. Family issues? Of course. Still hung up on the 'one that got away' from high school? Naturally. *sigh* Yes yes, we all know the story. So wonder of wonders the brothers' mom play 'sick' so that her wandering boys will come up to scratch in the commitment department so that she can have grandkids around. The brothers flip a coin and the youngest 'loses'. (No, that won't come back to bite him.... ) So then he finds out that 'the one that got away' is back in town and lo and behold he can't keep away from her, even though both he and she repeatedly and continuously extoll the problems and reasons why they cannot be together... yadda yadda yaddaBottom line I suffered through the whole obvious and tedious story and I'm done. It could have been a sweet story, but too much was given away right up front that I just did not connect with it the way the author wanted the reader to. I doubt I'll bother with the other two brothers' stories...

The Chandler brothers are the most eligible bachelors in Yorkshire Falls but their mother is tired of waiting for Grand babies. After a hospital visit which turned out to be heartburn she devises a plan to get her sons married. Foreign correspondent Ramon Chandler returns home and is the loser of the coin toss and must now get married and get his wife pregnant. After that is back to the field. Charlotte Bronson was the girl who turned him down back in high school and now is the girl he can't get enough of. Ramon is determined to prove to Charlotte he not only loves her but is willing to change his life for their happiness. Can't wait to read more and watched these brothers fall!!

This book frustrates me and here is why...I got really annoyed with the mother and this lie she told that pretty much forced the sons to take action. I know some will say oo but it worked out how it should...and while yes it did, she shouldn't have meddled in their lives. Let it all happen on its own terms, not with her meddling. I think that just threw me off the book and made me be like blugh to it! It was a quick read and for those who like romance.

I made it to within 2 hours of finishing the audio book but then returned it. The narrator was awful (all the girls sounded so whiny and the boys weren't very masculine) and the story was so unrealistic and fluffy. Not my thing.
