Four very different sixteen-year-old girls find themselves among the forty girls admitted into Top Model Prep, an elite modeling school located in fashion central NYC. It might seem obvious that Chloe, coming from a family of supermodels, is destined to be the winner, even though she’d rather be at home with her boyfriend. But she’s got some fierce competition. Lindsay, a former child star, will do anything to get her fame back. Wild Alexis might be the one to steal the show, among other things. International Shiva-Rose just might be it, especially since her crush is someone on the inside. These girls are beautiful, but do they have what it takes to be at the top—or will they lose themselves along the way?In all honesty, I didn’t expect much from this book or this series. As a first impression, Face Value seemed to be a lame takeoff from the hit TV show, America’s Next Top Model. To my surprise, I actually enjoyed the book. Although I’ve read several books before involving the modeling industry, its presentation in this book was fresh and interesting. As the story is set at a modeling academy, I actually learned along with the aspiring model characters more about fashion, hair and makeup, and, of course, the industry itself. Where this novel starts to take a dip for me is character development. It’s easy to get a general idea of who each of the characters is; Alexis is spontaneous and friendly, Lindsay is clever and driven, Chloe is withdrawn and sensitive, and Shiva-Rose is focused and moral. Still, there are little bits and pieces about each character’s background and personality that don’t quite fit the big picture, and that partially ruined any relationship I as the reader formed with the characters. Aside from that, Face Value is a quick and enjoyable read, filled with drama, romance, and tidbits about the life of the fashion elite. The America’s Next Top Model series is sure to be enjoyed by fans of The Elite by Jennifer Banash, Violet on the Runway by Melissa Walker, and The A-List series by Zoey Dean.reposted from http://thebookmuncher.blogspot.com

Amazing!! You'd think it'd be all frufru and stuff, but it's not! There's a lot of drama, forbidden romance, jail threats, and much, much, more! I strongly recommend it to any girl who has ever watched MTV or Project Runway!

Four completely different girls, all wanting to be America's Next Top Model, were put in the same apartment for competition. Alexis seems like a sweet girl from a small-town, but what happened in her past, and what is it she keeps secret? Chloe doesn't want to be a model, her super-model mom wants her to be, though. She doesn't like the special treatment she gets because of who's daughter she is, Chloe wants people to think of her as herself. Lindsay was a celebrity, so now she's coming back to be famous through modeling. She will do anything to get to the top, and no roommates are going to stop her. And Shiva-Rose is from Israel wanting to win, so she can become a scientist, and not go back to Israel to be put in the army.

Another book fair pick and it was lame. I felt dumber for reading it. It is (surprise surprise) about four girls in a top model competition over the summer. There are four eliminations over the summer so I imagine there will be 4 books and the 4 roommates will be competing against each other but will have learned to be friends by then. I do like one of the characters because she shoplifts. I don't know why, but I guess she felt more real than the others. If you know any empty, vapid girls who like fashion then they will like this book.

I really like this book. My favorite character was Chloe. At first I thought that Chloe was going to be a bit stuck up but she turns out to be very nice and someone I would totally want to know. I think this is one of the first books where I like majority of the characters. I like the story and I think it is a lot better than the show. At first I was a bit apprehensive about the series but I found myself wanting to read more and stick it out to see who the winner is. :)

tried reading L.A. Candy as it was super popular with students this year, but couldn't make it past 1st chapter. Librarian suggested this book instead. Don't think I'll be finishing the series, but I do think some middle schoolers will enjoy it, so for that reason, glad I read it.
