Rare is a romance that surprises me. And when they do, I LOVE it!What A Girl Wants focuses on the relationship between Maddie and Alex, two friends who have attraction simmering beneath the surface. On one business trip to Hawaii, Maddie decides to throw caution – and her underwear – to the wind and turn up the heating on their friendship. Unfortunately for her, Alex wants to preserve the temperature for the sake of their relationship – even while he fantasises about her legs. Cue a whole load of hilarious seductions from Maddie, some super-charged stares, banter that makes you laugh out loud, and kisses hot enough to melt chocolate.Selena Robins has a gift for humour. It’s on every page, in Maddie and Alex’s banter, in her talks with her friend, in her thoughts: ‘If marriage is the answer, I’ll take another question.’ I found myself smiling more with this book, than I have for a while. Not only does Robins balance the humour well without it getting hijinks-silly, the sexual tension between these two friends is scorching. Their first kiss…well, trust me on this. You’ll want to have some ice nearby. So, sexy, funny, cute, light-hearted. Why did this book surprise me? The plot thickens – literally. We delve into a much deeper issue about parentage, which is balanced expertly with the lighter comedy-romance parts. Not only this, Robins also delivers twist after twist after twist. Just when I think I know where the plot will go next, she flips it on you and takes you to somewhere completely different. The end is fast-paced, but realistic, and I love how the issues surrounding the book are resolved. I loved the secondary characters, both of the MC’s friends. I’d love to see a sequel – hint, hint! I’m definitely looking forward to more books by this author.

Travel journalist Maddie Saunders is growing tiresome of trying to succed at a traditional relationship and decides a casual sexual relationship may be all she really needs. Who else could be more perfect to fill this position than Alex Donovan, her long time friend and investigative reporter that just happens to be joining her in Hawaii while both are on assignment. The only glitch in Maddie's perfect plan is that Alex is not a willing participant because the idea of only having Maddie for a short time then returning to friendship status holds no appeal for him. But rejecting Maddies advances becomes tougher when the bond between them becomes more than casual and they both start wanting more than their "no strings attached" agreement. The tender connection between them makes their sex hot, passionate and real. With all the fun in the sun and romantic tension, author Selena Robins has the unique ability to weave in a suspenseful plot and a emotional storyline about a woman desperately trying to find out where she came from and Alex Donovan who wil do anything to protect her from the pain the truth has in store for her.I recommend this smart, fun and sexy novel only to those who love great characters and a well written story.

"What a Girl Wants" by Selena Robins is a very entertaining romantic comedy with some very strong language and some explicit sex talk and scenes. It follows the flirtations between Maddie and Alex, two colleagues on a work assignment in Hawaii.Although they have been friends for years Maddie decides to seduce Alex, which at first does not go well. Told from both perspectives the book allows us to understand both characters' perception of the often hilarious scenes and the misunderstandings and complications that follow. Not a huge fan of romance I was pleasantly surprised by the fresh approach the author took, not taking the story too seriously, yet coming up with some well plotted turns and twists to make this engaging and interesting beyond the 'will-they-won't-they'.The inner dialogue that runs along some of the scenes is insightful in some scenes and outright funny in many others. Robins has only chosen great literary quotes to introduce the chapters which adds to the often ironic tone of the book. With great pace and good writing skills Robins has made this a very enjoyable fun book that easily stands out from some of the more generic and unoriginal helpings in the genre.I would definitely recommend it to fans of the genre and those who would like try.

After seeing all the 5 star reviews, maybe I was just expecting too much from this book. I was pretty excited by the opening pages, it seemed like it was going to be the fun, sexy read I was looking for, especially when the idea of "sex boot camp" was introduced. But then...well, it got really frustrating. Wait--where is "sex boot camp"? That was the refrain in my brain as I read repetitive scenes of "No, we're just friends," "Oh wow when did you get hot?" "Okay, let's screw," "But your uncle!" "But it's no strings attached!" "But let's have pages and pages about reporting and stuff that Laura doesn't care about because she wanted sex boot camp!" I don't know, this just wasn't my cuppa. Since everyone else loved it so much, I'm just going to have to assume that it was just me so I'm generously handing it 3 stars, even though I'd probably realistically give it 2. You don't promise a girl sex boot camp and then don't deliver. :P Given that everyone else loves it, clearly you probably will too, so don't let my review stop you from picking it up.

This novel was sent me by The Romance Man and the author, for an honest review. This novel is classified as Contemporary Romance. In my opinion, this is so much more than that. It has romance yes, and a very good one. It also has laughter, tears, mystery, and difficult family issues. The first few chapters are laugh out loud funny. At one point Alex explains that Maddie is “Like Lucille Ball on Red Bull”.Maddie Saunders is a travel journalist who specializes in adventure travel. Biking, hiking, and zip lining are some examples. Her close friend is Alex Donovan. He is an investigative journalist, hopping from one dangerous hot spot in the world to another. Alex and Maddie have been friends for six years, and now against her better judgment, she is going to try and convince him to join her in a casual affair. They are both being sent on an assignment to Hawaii, so Maddie decides it is the perfect place for a seduction. She is also on a continuing quest to find her biological father. Her mother refuses to tell her. One of several reasons their relationship is strained. The story goes on with our couple in Hawaii. While she works her seductive powers on Alex, other things are happening around them. There are twists and turns in this story, that definitely make it intriguing. Ms. Robins also focuses on the plight of numerous children and adults, trying desperately to find an unknown father or mother for medical issues, and also just the mental anguish of wanting to know there family roots. There were a couple chapters near the end which would have worked as a logical conclusion. Ms. Robins chose to let the novel draw to a different, and more satisfying conclusion. I would recommend this novel, first of all to anyone who loves chocolate. Maddie is a chocoholic, and there are several references throughout the book. This story pulled at my heart, my mind, and my funny bone. I laughed and cried my way through it. It goes back on my shelf, to be read again. Thanks you Ms. Robins for the pleasure of reading this wonderful novel.

4 ½ stars! When I was in Middle School and High School I had a male best friend that I had feelings for. My GuyPal stayed a pal and we never had a romance. I loved the premise of this book, mostly because I could identify with it so well. Maddie is an adventure and chocolate junkie, and she has the best job. She writes about her adventures for her uncle’s magazine. She is about to leave for a trip to a Hawaiian island for a few weeks of research for an article. She is shopping for a few more essentials for her trip. Namely a curve hugging little black dress that will aid her in attaining her most exciting adventure of all; convincing the other journalist on this trip to spend this trip in each other’s arms. Alex is her best friend and fellow journalist. They have been buddies for a long time. His going on this trip is to conduct an interview with the elusive Maxwell Hollister. Alex has feelings for Maddie also, feelings he is keeping to himself; as he would rather keep their friendship than have a short fling. He keeps to this ideal through all of Maddie’s attempts to convince him otherwise, and it is when she gave up and goes dancing with another man that Alex loses his internal struggle. And the love they find is more amazing than they imagined.Their journey to Happily Ever After (HEA) would be a fantastic read alone for the beautiful location and delightful characters. This wonderful book also has a wonderful subplot of Maddie’s personal journey to find out who she is biologically. Maddie never knew her father, and she has hired a private investigator to help her get the answers she has always wanted but her mother has never been willing to provide. Of course neither the journey to HEA or to find her father could be complete without a few funny happenings along the way. Selena Robins can sure write romantic comedy.I won this book from the blog Kindles & Wine. I was so excited as it was on my To Be Purchased to Read list. I enjoy Selena’s whit and quirky characters. I look forward to visiting with more of them in the future!

This was my first read of Selena Robins and I was delighted by the book! What I love most is how FUNNY it is! Robins has a natural talent for humor and comedic timing that outdoes all of those silly rom com movies Hollywood makes. I wish someone would make a movie out of this book. It's dialogue is natural, the pace of the story good, and the chemistry of the romance is perfectly executed and delightfully spun!Maddie, the heroine is a great woman for a reader to love. She's fun, sexy, and open about her wants and desires. She's the sort of woman I wish was real so I could hang out with her!And Alex, the hero? *swoons. I adore a good sexy, alpha hero and Robins didn't disappoint me. He's known Maddie for years and she's off-limits. He's a ladies man and she wants to seduce him bad. It's a great set-up and the book revs your engine in so many ways. I laughed, I got choked up and I am definitely adding Robin's to my must-read author list!

This fun book by Ms. Robins is much more than a romance. It is about changing friendships, temptation, the past coming back to haunt us and families that drive us crazy. Ms. Robins has a delightful sense of humor, and the book is packed with zingy one-liners. I loved the hero Alex. I wish heroine Maddie was my friend...heck, I wish I was Maddie! A wonderful book.

So, I was lucky enough to win a copy of this book, but unfortunately I couldn't get around to reading it for quite some time, due to an endless review list. So I finally started this the other day, and if I'm honest I wasn't quite sure if I would like it. It started off with a lot of quick 1-liners, and humour, and I didn't think it was going to be my cup of tea. I never read comedy/humorous fiction, for some reason it just doesn't grip me, and I need the angst over the quick lines and giggles. So I was a bit worried, but I progressed through the easy breezy banter at the beginning, and I already noticed that the writing was very sharp and really clever. This is quite the lengthy book, and I was wondering what could be filling all the pages, but I soon found out. Once you get past the beginning part, it would seem it has a little mystery and clever suspense to the story.Maddie Saunders is a feisty and determined girl, in her late 20's and a great career working as a travel Journalist. Her job is what is most important to her, so she doesn't have time to worry about anything else. Until she decides she needs some action, in the form of old friend, and fellow journalist Alex Donovan. He is extremely sexy, and determined to resist Maddie's ermmm charms, for the sake of their friendship. Which is stupidly hard, as Maddie is full on, and not taking no for an answer. This background story is how the book starts, Maddie and Alex are working together on a tropical remote island, and there is huge amounts of chemistry between them, and it's obvious they are perfect for each other right from the start, and yes it is very funny to see Maddie literally throw herself on poor Alex. So these scenes do make for some funny light reading. But besides this story line we also discover, Maddie is determined to get something else. Answers. She wants to know who her father is, and is having a huge amount of trouble finding him. Her mother isn't helpful, between jumping from husband to husband, and trying to give maddie beauty tips, disclosing information on her father is not something she is very forthcoming about. So there does seem to be a few stories running at once in the book, but once the mystery starts to kick in, and all the twists and turns come in to play, it became quite gripping. I was trying to piece the bits of information we are given together, to find my own answers. Which I'm happy to say, I was proved wrong, and it was all quite shocking and extremely cleverly put together. So, once the main story kicks off, and all the action starts, this story became a very gripping tale. The writing was great, and I began to like Maddie, where I wasn't entirely sure at the beginning if I did. But I'm glad I continued reading beyond my humour fiction fears, because this was a great story! Fantastic holiday reading, if you are after an easy read with plenty of hot scenes, giggles and mystery!Star Ratings:Plot = 4/5Characters = 3.5/5Heat = 3.5/5Writing Style = 4/5Overall Rating = 4/5

What a Girl Wants by Selena RobinsContemporary Romance- March 1st, 20104 starsWhat a Girl Wants is an over the top story about a travel journalist named Maddie. Maddie has a troubled past due to her narcissistic mother who ‘raised’ her by herself. But she is blessed with wonderful friends. Among them the sexy investigative reporter Alex. Alex is Maddie’s best friend but she wants to step up their relationship to the next level. Namely S-E-X! But Alex is hesitant because he is afraid to loose Maddie if their ‘no-strings’ relationship blows out of control. When Maddie discovers that her uncle has assigned her and Alex on an exclusive interview with a secretive billionaire in Hawaii, she is determined to seduce him there. But what she doesn’t realize is that her uncle sent Maddie to visit the billionaire for a reason and secrets that Maddie doesn’t expect may get her into deep trouble! This story starts out lighthearted then turns more serious. I did enjoy the dialogue especially between Maddie and her friend Reece. They were hilarious as Maddie tells Reece how she plans to ‘trap’ Alex. Maddie feels like a girlfriend you could hang with. What a Girl Wants has a lot of heart the only draw back for me was that I could not warm up to Maddie. I liked that she was proactive and her bold and her fun sprit added to the story. But after reading numerous occasions when she kept throwing herself at Alex I actually wanted her to stop and let the poor guy have a break! Her dogged pursuit and emotional highs and lows were hard for me to read and sometime came off as immature.I felt the real star of the book was Alex. His patience with Maddie and integrity really shine. He is sexy but a good guy who doesn’t want to screw up his great relationship with Maddie by sleeping with her. He is actually the one thinking in the story, the one who is more responsible. He has a solid head on his shoulders and because he is so decent and honest it made him very likeable. This story has a lot of depth. A mysterious billionaire, Maddie’s estranged and vain mother, Maddie’s hot pursuit of Alex and a revenge seeking female make for an amusing novel that is very involving.Perky and fun. This book is much more than a romance it also has mystery and some kick-ass dialogue. If you love chick lit you will adore this book!Reviewed by Steph from Bookaholics Romance Book Club

What A Girl Wants is a delightful romp of a book with witty dialogue, a feisty and resilient heroine, and a mouthwateringly hunky hero. There is an exotic setting, and since Maddie, the heroine, is a travel writer, you get an even deeper dive into the exciting locale. With an interesting twist on the “friends to lovers” trope, Selena Robins doesn’t just offer up a light-hearted romantic comedy, although it is definitely that, but the story takes a twist into a bit more serious material. Maddie is a bouncy, sassy sort, but she has heartache in her background that shows us why she has such inner strength and resilience. (She can also eat like an Olympic soccer player, although her tastes lean more to chocolate and ice cream. I want to know her secret!) Alex is just my kind of hero, the steady, serious sort who starts out wanting to maintain their friendship with no risks and ends up admitting his best friend is also the fulfillment of his wildest imaginings. (And he has a lop-sided grin!)The book is full of great quips and quotes, but here are a few of my favorites:“The cherry left her fingers and landed on her tongue. “Mmmm.” She stopped moaning. Her glazed eyes widened, and she stared at him with a horrified expression. Gasping, she flung her hands to her neck and wrapped them around her throat. He erupted off his chair. “Maddie?” Hauling her to her feet, he did what any man would have done under the circumstances. He popped her cherry.”“I have a bucket of water with her name on it. She’d melt in a nanosecond.”“When I find myself in a funk about this or anything else, I allow myself to wallow for a short time.” She smiled. “My good friends Ben and Jerry and Godiva are extremely supportive during this stage.” (See what I mean about the ice cream and chocolate?)Did I mention the sex? Well, let’s just say I don’t know how these two managed to ignore the chemistry for so long!An enjoyable and fun contemporary romance with a twist and a lot of humor and heart!

I met this author at a book signing and not only was she funny and outgoing and gracious as she took her time to speak to everyone and not just sit there and sign books or even push her own book. She even recommended other books to people in the book store who didn't read romance. A few of us went together just to talk to the author, as we are thinking of writing someday. We had a lot of questions and she answered them and also wrote down a lot of links where we could find information on the web on writing and publishing. I bought her book and I'm glad I did, even though I didn't really go to the signing to buy a romance novel. What a Girl Wants was such a pleasure to read. I loved it!!!! I wish I could rate it higher. Maddie is a girl I'd love to hang out with. Alex is a guy that every girl dreams of finding. I love a hero who isn't full of angst and is a combination of alpha male but with lots of heart and a good head on his shoulders. He also isn't afraid to show his emotions without being a wimp about it. Loved his best friend Tim too and Maddie's best friend, I hope they both get their own book. Oh Maddie's mother, how I related to the relationship between Maddie and her mother. The book had many laugh out loud moments, but it also brought me to tears a few times. The minute I met both Maddie and Alex I could feel and sense the sexual tension between them and the build up made the sex scene really hot off the pages. Great dialogue, strong characters, a mystery that one doesn't expect and the ending took a turn which I also didn't expect. A great read and a book that I will read again.

There is so much to like about What A Girl Wants! I'm not going to recap the story since that has been done in other reviews. Instead I just want to say what I liked about this book:The Characters: The heroine is a strong, funny woman who is fiercely independent. The hero is smart and sexy. Loved them both! The Writing: Love the Author's voice! The writing is excellent and I felt like I was in the minds of the characters. The dialogue is realistic, and at no time did it feel forced or fake. The Romance: The romance between the characters is funny and sexy. The sexual tension early in the book is palpable. There aren't a lot of detailed sex scenes in the book, so if that is something you really want it may not be the book for you. The scenes it does have are very sexy. The Plot: What A Girl Wants is more that just a romance! The characters end up embroiled in a mystery that they did not expect. I really enjoyed the storyline. The only thing that irritated me was the fact that on my e-book version, fractions would show up every time the Author wrote a partial sentence, in other words, when one of the characters was interrupted or stopped talking before finishing their sentence. It occurred quite a bit. Don't know if that problem has been corrected or not.In summary, if you like a funny, sexy book with a strong heroine, I think you will like What A Girl Wants. This is especially true if you like an element of mystery and adventure with your romance!

Platonic friends for over six years, Maddie Saunders is ready to turn Alex Donovan into her friend with benefits. Alex, already having experienced the disastrous results of bringing sex into a friendship, refuses Maddie's advances, although his body has other ideas. What a Girl Wants by Selena Robins is one of the best romance novels I've ever read. From the very first page, I strapped myself in for the roller coaster ride of emotions from Maddie's sexual fantasies to Alex's rejection, and an ending that made me cry, but left me satisfied and hoping for a sequel. This romantic comedy also deals with Maddie searching for her father, whom her mother refuses to talk about. With the perfect amount of romance and other issues within the pages, Selena Robins prevents the sagging middle of some novels and keeps the pages turning.Whether you are a fan of romance, or ready to read your first, I recommend What a Girl Wants to anyone over seventeen. Will Alex give into his urges and finally experience Maddie's "benefits"? If Maddie and Alex do hook up, will their friendship survive? And will Maddie ever discover the identity of her father?Find out by reading What a Girl Wants by Selena Robins for yourself.

I have a favorite new author and her name is Selena Robins! What A Girl Wants is an amazing written contemporary romance. I loved the character of Maddie as she was so upbeat, funny, and knew exactly what she wanted even if it was her friend and co-worker, Alex. Although Alex has a certain attitude about not dating his co-worker’s, he too can’t help but notice Maddie. Being a writer I loved the character’s jobs in this one and it was so easy to be swept away in the journey they were on. Alex investigating a rich man, Mr. Hollister who he knows is hiding something. Maddie is on an assignment and on a beautiful travel destination. She has always wanted to find out who her father was and know more about herself, but that’s not going to stop her from trying to have fun with Alex or is it? Maddie is about to find out all that she is ever wanted and all at once. Does this have a happy ending? You will have to find out. Robins writing brings the funny, the hot, and the sexy back to contemporary romance!

Selena Robins has given me everything I look for in a contemporary romance: humor, a wonderful sweet romance and a sassy heroine. Set in Hawaii, this story had me sighing, wishing I could experience the sun and heat along with heroine Maddie. Sexy hero Alex has no idea what he's up against, but something tells me he is enjoying the journey. This book has propelled Ms. Robins to the top of my "aut0-buy" list of authors. She is that funny. However, What a Girl Wants isn't just a lark. There is a real story behind the laughs and love and a satisfying conclusion. I know this won't be the first book I read by this author.

OK, I NEED to go to Hawaii. I’ve never been there, if you can believe it. I feel like I’m the only one! Selena Robins really does take you there in What a Girl Wants. But the gorgeous setting wasn’t the only reason why I enjoyed this book. There were a few other reasons why I liked it:First of all, Maddie, our heroine, is so real! She has a job as a travel journalist and has close female friends. The very first chapter has her talking with her girlfriend Reece, and their conversation sounds like conversations I’ve had with my own friends. It’s so much fun to read characters that I truly can relate to! Maddie is hilarious and I love having a large helping of humor with my romance. If Maddie is the humor, then Alex is the straight man. Alex is the hero of the novel and is described as “sex on legs.” Wow! That sounds like a guy I want to read more about and, as a hero, Alex doesn’t disappoint. He’s also a writer but he does more serious pieces and has this journalist’s sixth sense, which somehow was totally sexy to me!Finally, and this may seem silly, but I love how Maddie is something of a chocoholic. I guess that’s a good thing AND a bad thing because I was constantly wanting snacks while I was reading this book! I mean, come on – Maddie’s best friend is named Reece! Or maybe I’m the only one who thought of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups whenever I saw her name in print…I enjoyed What a Girl Wants. It was a fun read; it’s set in a great location and has wonderful characters. I wouldn’t say that it started off slow but I would say that, although Alex and Maddie are close friends, their love story is pretty slow to get going. Alex is really concerned about ruining their friendship and Maddie makes it her job to get Alex to overlook those concerns. Her attempts to do that will have you on the floor laughing! You’ll have to get the book to find out!Bottom LineWhat a Girl Wants will take you to Hawaii. So if you’re feeling some cabin fever, you should give this book a try. Also, if you like a slow burn, where the characters take their time getting to the Sexy Time, you’ll like this book. Especially because the payoff is well worth the wait!Rating: B+Review copy courtesy of the author in exchange for an honest review

This was a funny, mysterious and sexy friends-to-lovers story. It pretty much had everything you’d want for pure indulgence. This was my first book by this Author and I thought the characters were really well written and I absolutely love this Author’s style of writing.Right so; we have Maddie, a travel journalist who wants to take her long standing friendship with the gorgeous Alex to a new level. Her methods for achieving this “sex boot camp” are so funny I had tears from laughing at times. But then again I completely connected with Maddie; I loved her sense of humour. Yes it was cheesy at times but it was sarcastic and spot on in the main. She has such attitude and charisma yet nurses a sweet vulnerability which is quite hidden by the easy going and comical exterior.Maddie has no idea who her Father is and her relationship with her Mum is pretty strained and non-existent. In parts, this story was really quite emotional and heart-breaking when it came to her past and the effect it had on her future. So this story sees Maddie trying both to find out who her Father is as well as getting some nookie with Alex purely for fun…no strings attached…oh and it is set in the stunning Hawaii of all places. Destined not to fail right?! Two extreme emotions ensues for the reader…the sadness surrounding her family and the hilarity surrounding her quest for Alex. Though both come to a tangled climax, (no pun intended!), that made for compulsive reading. As for Alex, he is a tall and strong protective alpha male with a wicked sense of humour….he is just lush! Him and Maddie are pretty tight and constantly play pranks on each other so when she starts pretty much making every word out of her mouth a sexual innuendo the onslaught on his senses are…well…hard to keep up with. Problem is though, that Alex works for Maddie’s Uncle and does not want to ruin a great friendship. He also does not want to hurt her as he cares very much for her.Alex and Maddie may have started their journey off as friends in Hawaii but both become pretty surprised by the turn of events and realise that they may have bitten off more than they can chew. This story has quite a slow build up, however it sets the scene for a pretty fast paced second half. I don’t want to spoil this story as there are so many twists and turns that it should be experienced with fresh eyes. But what I will say is that this is definitely a class read that will have your pulse racing and have you laughing, swooning and maybe a bit teary too.

She’s got the moxie. He’s got the sexy.Travel journalist Maddie Saunders has new attitude, and wants two new accessories to go with it. One, turn her triple-X fantasies into reality with Mr. Sex-On-Legs—her friend, Alex Donovan. And two, find her biological father to see if her gene pool has a deep end...Poor Alex! Tropical paradise, exotic cocktails, and a beautiful coworker hell-bent on having her wicked way with him. Should be every man’s not-so-secret fantasy come true. Except he likes Maddie, and doesn’t want to hurt her—and having a fling with the boss’s niece isn’t a great career move. But Maddie’s not looking for a relationship—she just wants to have some fun. This started out as a light, playful book, full of witty banter and heavy on the sexual innuendo. Great setting and red-hot chemistry. Wonderful escapism reading. But I’m an impatient reader, and I usually read darker, weightier romances. Selena Robins is sneaky, folks—she hooks you in with the fun and flirt, and THEN gets to the heart and soul of her characters. There is plenty here for a drama-lover like me. A fatherless heroine with abandonment issues, conflicted heroes with secrets…even an evil blackmailer playing everyone like an evil puppeteer. The second half of the book was right up my alley, as Alex works to get under Maddie’s mask to the real woman within. Masks have always fascinated me—what people show to the world vs. what they keep hidden inside, and the level of trust needed to share what’s inside with another. And a hero who can call a heroine’s bluff and bring out the real woman—that’s MY kind of guy!The only weird thing was a bizzaro technical issue with my beloved Kindle. For whatever reason, it kept replacing periods (.) in the story with three-quarter marks (3/4)—literally. Never had that happen before. Anyone else’s Kindle do an independent free-form act like that? Because at first it was distracting, and then once I got into the story, I quit seeing them. But I just went back and checked—they’re still there. I think my Kindle is possessed…Definitely pick up this book—it’s a great read for everyone at either end of the spectrum. Not too many books can say that.

Intoxicating Mixture of Romantic Suspense and Humor Whimsical and endearingly sassy Maddie is out to seduce Alex if it's the last thing she does...and with her notoriously humorous seduction mishaps throughout the story, it may happen! Good thing she has rock-steady Alex in the wings in this friends-to-lovers story with a happy beginning ending. Her seductive charm isn't exactly what Alex is looking for in his life. He's been quite content being on his own without relationship worries or stresses, though his platonic friendship with Maddie is a constant he relies on more than he realizes. Especially now, as she offers up a juicy chance-of-a-lifetime opportunity to make their friendship one with benefits…and no strings attached. The real question is: can HE let go? This was a wonderful friends-to-lovers story that captured so many facets in one book, I had to read over some scenes twice to keep up. To give you an idea, it started out reading as a chick-lit story – light, occasional humor, a simplistic plot, building up some suspense. Just as I thought I was reading a light beach read, the suspense knocked me for a loop – in a very good way. Not once did this story slow down, as it’s chock full of many bold elements I look for in a great story – romance, suspense, and family relationships. It took me a while to read simply because I had to digest the story toward the end without distractions. I like suspense, usually in smaller doses, so this was a good change for me. If I could classify this book in food terms considering genre, I would say it’s a hearty buffet of edgy chick-lit and romantic suspense with a heavy helping of sarcastic humor. I’m a girl and still have no idea What A Girl Wants but this book gave me a great idea that it may be having my own Alex on an island with another Selena Robins book in my hands during the after-glow.Laurie Kozlowski Tempted by an Angel

Alex may be a brute sometimes but the boy sure worries enough, "no reason." He crooked his finger and lifted her chin. "I wanted to check if you were okay. Did I hurt your ribs this afternoon?" He furrowed his brows. "You're pale. Let's go to the clinic." The Power our girl Maddie has over Alex is funny as hell at times, "the music ended and she flashed him a saucy grin. "Don't look now, but I think I'm the one you got a rise out of you." Christ, she's right. He was stiffer than his nine iron." He can be a total caveman, "picking her up and cradling her in his arms, his towel fell to the ground. He carried her down the hall and kicked his bedroom door open. "Not a chance in hell." He's so generous when it comes to his rules with her, "as long as I'm the one taking your clothes off, you can pile them anywhere you want." He caressed the back of her neck with his hand. "I even missed the way you hog the blankets, use my razor, squeeze the toothpaste from the top instead of the bottom..." He can be a real sweetheart, "hmmm. Resting my eyes." Grinning he unhooked her bra. "I'd love to help you, but I have no idea what other guys want." He nuzzled her neck with kisses. "But I sure as hell know what this guy wants." I loved this book, it was funny, and hot and had Alex.

This is the first book that I've read from this author. I really enjoyed this book. For me, it started out slow and I didn't really feel like I knew or connected to the characters. But as you get to know them, you start to fall in love with them. And those feeling just keep going.Maddie is fun, sassy, intelligent, humorous and a chocoholic!! She is real and down to earth. She reacts to situations in a relatable way that makes you feel like you know her or have been in her shoes. Alex is hot, loyal, intelligent and a perfect match for Maddie's ridiculousness. The secondary characters are just as thought out and developed. They are a true asset to the story. The twists and turns were unexpected and I really enjoyed the journey they took the reader on. I would highly recommend this book and look forward to reading other books by Selena Robins. *book was sent by author for honest review*

What a Girl Wants by Selena Robins is a very engaging and funny, friends to lovers tale that is reminiscent of the old 1930's screwball comedies -- think Gable and Lombard (if you're old enough) but with a whole lot more spice. A whole lot more.Travel writer Maddie Saunders and the man she's pursuing while on assignment in Hawaii, serious award winning journalist and co-worker, Alex Donovan, are well drawn, three-dimensional and eminently likable characters. The mystery infused plot lines and the "will they or won't they" romantic tension kept me hooked until the very end but where I derived the most enjoyment was from Robins' gift for great dialog. Crisp, real and often laugh out loud funny. The author successfully embodies Maddie with a wit, intelligence and perspective on life that makes her fun to be around, someone to root for and someone you hope to meet again in another book. Fun and enjoyable read!

The start of this story is slow and odd. Maddie is on a mission to sleep with her best friend Alex. They are both scheduled to take a several week long trip and she decides she is going to seduce him. This made Maddie out to be a slut and Alex to be a tease, he lead her on several times and left her hanging. After we get through this slow start, the book is great. Maddie and Alex start to build a relationship. Mystery, misunderstandings and good sex are to follow.Maddie is looking for father, Maxwell is looking for his daughter, Felicia is trying to keep her secret and Alex is trying to solve the mystery. The truth is surprising and brings healing to many characters. Add in a sweet ending and you have a great story.A bone to pick is the chapters. The book changes scenes and characters with no page break. switching from maxwell's house back to the hotel without even an extra line to break it up. this added to confusion and a stumbling block reading the story.
