4.5 starsHe gave her what no one else had ever been able to give.A past to cherish.A present to enjoy.A future to anticipate. The Darkest Secret is the seventh installment of the Lords of the Underworld series, the story of Amun, Keeper of Secrets, and Haidee, a Hunter.Amun can hear everyone’s thoughts and hidden secrets. He has chosen not to speak, because if he releases a single sound, the secrets would escape and it would hurt his friends. In The Darkest Lie he helped Aeron to save Legion from Hell, but during the journey, his demon, the high lord Secrets, absorbed hundreds of his minion demons, into Amun’s body. Now Amun is not himself. His condition is infectious: whoever comes near him feels dark, evil urges. His friends keep him chained, to ensure he doesn’t hurt others and himself.Thousands of years ago, Haidee was the Bait who seduced Baden, Keeper of Distrust that ultimately led his death. Back then, she had paid for that, and the Lords had never thought they would see her again. But Haidee has the ability of being reanimated. She had suffered death several times and the pain of reanimation during the centuries. In ‘The Darkest Lie’ Strider captures Haidee in Rome, and takes her back to Budapest. They arrive to the fortress to see that an army of angels guards Amun, but even they don’t know how to cure him.For some inexplicable reasons, Haidee’s presence frightens the minions, and Amun calms down. Zacharel, the leader of the angel army tells Amun there is only one way to get rid of the minions: he has to take back them to Hell. And since he is lucid only with Haidee at his side, she has to accompany him. With that, their journey begins, not only through the horrifying realms of Hell, but getting to know each other as well.Amun is strong, reliable, and deeply caring, with amazing self-discipline and strength. He is a fierce warrior, and a devoted friend. He knew his friends considered him calm, without a temper. Normally he was. But when he looked at this woman, this supposed enemy, this unexpected savior, something hard and primal seethed inside him, knocking at the door of his restraint. He felt like a godsdamn caveman, wanting to carry off his woman and hide her from the rest of the world. Wanting to put his body between hers and anyone who dared threaten her. Wanting to tie her to his bed, keep her there forever, keep her ready for him. Wanting to soothe her even as he ravaged her. The desires were dark and sultry, insidious as they snuck past his defenses and wrapped around his every cell, changing the very fabric of his being. He was Amun no longer, but Haidee's man.Haidee is extraordinary. With each reanimation she forgets her every good memory, and only the bad ones remain. And an odd hatred. Despite these things, she tries to conserve the good things: she makes tattoos, sends herself notes and pictures about her nice experiences. How fundamentally good a person she is that (view spoiler)[despite hosting a small part of the demon of Hate inside her, (hide spoiler)] she can overcome the hatred, and is capable of having positive emotions and desires.“… she was killed again and again and again, and even though every good and decent memory she had was always wiped from her, even though she knew only sadness and pain, she found a way to love me, to save me…to die for me.”I was overwhelmed by the grandiosity of forgiveness and unconditional love in this novel.Forgiveness and trust after everything that had happened to them, after so much pain, loathing, and enmity. People change. Particularly when they have thousands of years to live. They discover the connection between them is somehow inherent, therefore it is impossible to ignore or resist. The chemistry is palpable between Amun and Haidee. It is heated, passionate, all-consuming, plus it is spiced with telepathic communication. The Hell-tour (view spoiler)[was totally unnecessary, as Zacharel says at the end, which(hide spoiler)] pissed me off at first, but I realized it was necessary anyway to create an exciting, horrific, fantasy-filled setting to Haidee and Amun’s story.I was impressed to tears when Amun spoke up for Haidee, with actual words, not with sign language.Though the ending (view spoiler)[and the comeback of Haidee (hide spoiler)] are a little bit rough-and-ready: Haidee quickly sums up what happened to her, the reader doesn’t witness it. I really dislike narratives that tell instead of show. Despite that, The Darkest Secret is an amazing installment of the LOTU series.Oh, secondary storylines!I enjoyed Paris, Strider and William’s vacation. They provide many laugh-out-loud moments.William jerked a thumb toward the backseat. “What about sleeping beauty?” “He's not gonna kill himself while we're gone.” “Do you have any self-preservation instincts?” Ice-blue eyes glittered with sardonic humor. “I meant, what if he wakes up, steals our car and abandons us?” “Easy. We steal a truck and play chase. I've always wanted to drive a big rig.” “I like where your head's at, Stridey-Man. Maybe we'll do that anyway.”A ray of hope is flashed to Paris to find Sienna, and Strider and Kaia’s story is also intriguingly prepared."I cannot kill him," Kaia muttered to herself. "I cannot kill him. I promised Bianka I'd stop at ten bodies a day, and I've already surpassed my quota for the fifth day in a row. I cannot kill him."Originally posted on my blog on August 9, 2013.My favorite quotes.Read:August, 2011August, 2013November, 2014["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>

Amun: Demon of SecretsButterfly: on his right calfHis curse: Secrets. His demon absorbs the darkest thoughts and deepest mysteries of anyone nearby. Amun is suffering silently from horrific images, nightmares, deepest darkest thoughts, the memories of anyone that approaches him. He can of course use them against his enemies, but the price to pay is much worst.Haidee: A demon-assassin. A Hunter; One of the Lords’ worst enemies. She was also a Bait to kill Baden centuries ago. Luckily in this series nothing and no one stays dead forever.Supernatural ability: A small piece of Hate is buried inside her and it makes her freezing cold all the time. When she dies, she always comes back BUT there is a price to this. She forgets. She is full of tattoos from previous lives which show her the way.Poor silent Amun… He avoids talking because every time that he talks secrets are exposed and friends are killing each other and wars start and many melodramatic bloody things are happening. As a result he is using sign language. Aeron and William took Amun into Hell on a rescue mission to save Legion, who is now changed and she is not an ugly demon minion anymore. Legion is a beautiful demon minion now and deeply ruined after so much time in Hell and in other demons’ retention. She had made a really bad deal and she had to pay. The problem is that Amun returns in a much worst condition. The silent warrior is back and hundreds of demons are back with him, eating him from inside, destroying his soul. The Angel warriors are at the Lords’ castle uninvited and they are waiting to kill Amun if nothing changes. Lords are ready to fight and save their best friend. Deep at the dungeons of Lords’ castle Amun and Haidee meet and Haidee will think that Amun is her long lost boyfriend Micah. They are almost identical. So, she will try to save them both from the ruthless Lords. Amun will find peace for the first time with Haidee. The voices will be silent:“Only when I’m with you do those things become manageable.”Wariness fell over her lovely features like a curtain, but she didn’t attack. “Why me?”“I have no idea.”And he will want her frantically:Amun hadn’t had a lover in a very long time, but he hadn’t forgotten the basics, and he’d never been so driven by instinct. Touch, taste, possess, own. After all the misunderstandings are clear, Amun and Haidee will need to leave for the great mission. They have to go back to Hell and put all these demons back!If Hadee is ice, Amun is fire. They complete each other. One of the nicest love stories in LOTU’s world. He gave her what no one else had ever been able to give. A past to cherish. A present to enjoy. A future to anticipate. And he wanted her, too. She knew he did.Not even Strider could destroy their love and he will lose this challenge. Strider’s turn to fall in love will come in the next book…but his lovestory will start in this book. What can I say? I loved everything in this book, however I am a huge fan so I am easily pleased ;)

Amun and Haidee’s story was one that I read just because back in the time and didn’t make a great impact on me but oh, lord… I was so wrong. This time it was like reading it with brand new eyes and I loved it. I loved them together, I loved the rest of the characters and I’m so happy I’m re-reading this series.

4 Fire And Ice Stars! This is the seventh book in the Lord of the Underworlds series. Amun and Haidee's story. Amun is the keeper of secrets. Every person he comes in contact with he absorbs all of their secrets. So many secrets this man keeps inside of him that he is afraid to open his mouth and spill so many things that could cause harm. Amun uses sign language with his brothers. During the last book when Amun, Areon and William visited Hell to rescue Legion Amun's body absorbed many many demons. He's lost and wants nothing but to die. He's burning up inside with all the evil churning and churning in his body. That is until Haidee is put in the room beside him. Haidee can hear Amun in her mind. He wants her to come to him. She makes all the demons in his body hide. Haidee is confused by this but she claws her way through a hidden door between their rooms. Finally Amun is at peace. His fire has died. He never wants Haidee to leave him. Haidee is furious. She is a hunter. She's been hunting and killing these demons most of her life. She thinks Amun is her boyfriend Micah. They look just a like. Haidee can't stop the rage that is going through her body every time she looks at Amun and sees how beaten and bloody he is. She wants to kill every Lord for doing this to her boyfriend. Imagine her surprise when Strider enters the room and calls him Amun. Haidee is confused. But she can't help how she reacts to Amun. Haidee is the Hunter that lured their fellow friend to his death. She is all of the Lords enemy. She let the hunters use her as bait. Amun can't think about how he reacts towards Haidee. He knows he should want to kill her but he can't do anything but protect her. These two had a very long journey ahead of them. There was plenty of secrets and action going on in this book because they had to take a trip back to hell. Do they figure out how to get rid of all the demons in Amun's body? What happens in Hell when Amun and Haidee are there? Is Haidee human or does she have secrets of her own? Will Amun's brothers come to except Haidee or will they kill her no matter how Amun feels about her?I loved Haidee and Amun! She was ice and he was fire. She was strong and would do anything to protect Amun. I loved that Amun could not read Haidee's secrets but he could speak to her in her mind. Not that she always listened to what ever he told her to do. lolOnce again we also get to visit the other Lords journeys. William is on a mission and I can't wait to get more of that in future books. Paris has seen a ghost and is hell bent on seeing that ghost again. Hopefully he can stop drinking himself into a coma long enough to figure it out. We also got a lot of Strider keeper of defeat in this story. I can't wait. He has one crazy Harpy named Kaia gunning for him. I'm excited to begin their journey! It's the next book! I don't know how I'm going to feel when I'm at the end of all the books in this series that are out and will have to wait like everyone else for the next one. I'm loving them all so much!

4 ½ stars – Paranormal RomanceI enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would, especially considering that I was somewhat disappointed with the last book, The Darkest Lie, and since Amun has always been a rather quiet (pun intended), serious, and less charismatic Lord. But color me pleasantly surprised by my enjoyment with this one. Amun and Haidee have magnetic chemistry and explosive sexual tension, and their mutual longing and desperate need to belong was palpable, touching, and sad. The romance between them is wildly passionate, sweet, sexy, beautifully moving, fierce, and achingly tender, all at the same time. And did I mention HOT? Whew! And I loved all the humorous buddy moments with Strider (his cocky arrogance cracks me up!), William, and Paris ribbing each other. I can't wait for their books! This is a fun, smokin' hot, satisfying addition to the LOTU series. 4 ½ stars!

I was originally completely against Amun and Haidee being together. I thought that Gena Showalter was going to pair up Amun and Kaia and then Strider and Haidee. It seemed like Stridey-man and Haidee had chemistry in The Darkest Lie, and it seemed that Amun had a thing for Kaia. Well, I've never been so glad to be proven wrong. When I found out the pairings, I was...well, let's just say upset. I have since realized that I just have to let Gena do her thing because, hey, she actually knows what she's doing! Amun and Haidee are perfect together, and I can see now that Strider and Kaia are perfect for each other. So, Gena, I apologize for questioning your genius. Before I get started on my review, I just wanted to mention that I am going to do this review a little differently. For the three main characters of the book--Amun, Haidee, Strider--I will be putting some lyrics of songs that made me think of them when I was reading the book, but the rest of the characters, I'll just be talking about like normal.I hear voices in my headThe council meThey understandThey tell me things that I will doThey show me things I'll do to youThey talk to me, they talk to meI hear voices cryingI see heroes dyingI taste the blood that's dryingI feel the tension risingI see darkness fallingI hear voices callingI feel justice crawlingI see faith has fallen("Voices" by Rev Theory)Amun has always been a little mysterious. Up until the past couple of books, he hadn't really been around much and, while I had liked and adored him, I didn't totally love him. Well, I certainly do now. The guy's a sexy beast! He is sweet, loyal, loving, fierce, intense, compassionate, and drop-dead gorgeous. And I have to say, he didn't talk hardly at all--except at the end with Strider, the asshole, and once with Haidee--but it was extremely sexy that he was able to talk inside Haidee's head because of their blood bond. He is definitely the perfect male to be with Haidee and I love how he loves her. I mean, hell! He was willing to die just to be with her! Amun is now one of my favorite Lords. You are exactly what I'm looking forYou are the key that opens up the doorI'll take anything from youI'd long to love youYou are exactly what I've waiting forWaiting has only made me love you moreTell me what you're gonna doI'm crazy into you("Extreme" by Valora)I love Haidee. I remember when she was first introduced in TDL and everyone was hating on her because she killed Baden, but I loved her immediately. I didn't care that she killed Baden because 1.) I don't really know him, 2.) I knew she was going to be one of the Lords' woman, and 3.) She was just too easy to like. She's sassy and strong, brave and bold, sweet and caring, compassionate and loving. Yes, she was a Hunter. Who the hell cares! Everyone--except me--is okay with Paris being all obsessed with Sienna--who was Bait, thank you very much! And Haidee is certainly more lovable, in my opinion, than Sienna ever was. Like Amun, Haidee has quickly become one of my favorite females of the series. She rocks.Jessie Amun is a friend, yeahI know he's been a good friend of mineBut lately something's changed that ain't hard to defineJessie's Amun's got himself a girl and I want to make her mineAnd she's watching him with those eyesAnd she's lovin' him with that body, I just know itYeah 'n' he's holding her in his armsLate, late at nightYou know, I wish that I had Jessie's Amun's girlI wish that I had Jessie's Amun's girl("Jessie's Amun's Girl" by Rick Springfield)Strider, oh Strider, you drive me crazy! I love you, but I want to hit you! You are so adorable, but you suck! I am very glad that Stridey-man's book is next because I've been waiting for it for a long time, and I can't wait to see how Kaia finally wins him over. However, I did not enjoy when he was an ass to Kaia in this book, giving her shit excuses. I really liked seeing that other side to Kaia, though--the vulnerable side as she admitted how she felt about Strider, the jealous side as she smelled the lingering scent of the stripper on his skin, and fury, which is nothing new of course, when Amun hurt him. She's really something else and I can't wait to see how their relationship turns out!I want to marry William and have his babies. He is so damn adorable, and I love that he finally got around to going after Gilly's family. Speaking of Gilly, they are so cute together! If they don't end up as each other's happily ever after, well, I know I'll be pissed. Sure, she's only seventeen and he's centuries old, but who gives a damn?! It's pretty much the same situation with the Lords who have human mates! Just wait a couple years and it will be fine! Oh, oh, oh! Annnnnnd...We finally find out how Willie is connected to the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse and, let me tell you, it's pretty badass and it just makes him even sexier! The one Lord who irritates the hell out of me right now is Paris. Goodness, he needs to get over the Sienna shit so bad, I can't even tell you! I am so glad that his book is after Strider's because then I don't have to deal with his shit anymore. UGH.One thing I don't understand is why Kane is practically non-existent in the books. According to Gena, his book is coming after Paris's. So, shouldn't he be showing up more in these books so that we can kind of get to knowing more about him? He's probably the Lord that we know the least about.Ashlyn is still pregnant. What! How?! Why the hell is she still pregnant! She has been harboring those demon babies inside her for six books now! Only one book she wasn't pregnant in and that was her own! Are you. Shitting me? This has got to end. She needs to pop those damn things out and let someone else have a chance at being pregnant!Like I said before, I learned to trust Master Showalter and her Jedi Author Goddess abilities. I may not understand where the hell she's going, but I trust that she has a plan and won't let me down because she hasn't so far. Now I can't wait for The Darkest Surrender! Eek!Favorite Quotes:Hate. Huh. He'd never hated himself. If anything, he'd always liked himself a little too much. Once, a human female had even accused him of picturing his own face while he climaxed. He hadn't denied it, either, and next time he'd slept with her, he'd made sure to scream, "Strider" at the pivotal moment.(Strider, pages 132-133)"I'll blame you because you're too beautiful to resist. Because you think of my well-being even when you're in danger yourself. Because you're mine. My warrior. My...demon."(Haidee, pages 284-285)

2018-12-23 06:21 those of you who didn't wanna finish this series because you weren't happy with the choices Showalter made. Then I'm gonna tell you now. Stop being a Ding-Dong, pick up the dang book and read it! I assure it's well worth reading and you will LOVE IT!As we all know from the previous book "Darkest Lie" William and Aeron, took Amun into hell to rescue Legion. So this book continues on from there. When Amun-Keeper of the demon of secrets helps in this mission, he absorbs all the bad thoughts and memories of Demon Minions, hundreds of them to be precise. I felt remotely saddened reading Amun go through so much pain. *sighs'* He's just,so darn sweet and lovable,he'd rather feel the pain and misery than expose others to his torture,so he keeps it in. He can’t speak aloud for fear all the secrets he has bottled up will come spilling out and hurt those around him.We don't really read much of him in the series,so reading this book had me jumping for joy to finally to read up on my favorite tortured hero and his amazing HEA.YUP! I say Amazing, cause he stole the spotlight of the series!Haidee-(she has a few secrets of her own,but I'm keeping it to a minimum) Let's just say,she is a Hunter, enemy to the LOTU who many years ago killed a very good friend of there's,Baden. Her parents and husband were killed by,who she thought were the Lords, but after putting the pieces together she comes to realize after all these years, hunting and avenging to kill the Lords was a total mistake.Haidee & Amun- They're complete opposites but if Amun's happy,I'm happy. I didn't think I would ever come to like Haidee at all.Now I take it all back. She helped, stole, and captured my Heroes heart. They both found a way to put their pasts behind and patch things up.Their love for one another was strong, passionate and trusting.But... Strider-Demon of Defeat (The only Lord to actually make me purr...ahahaha) has a strong infatuation with the Heroine. Until he realizes it was never meant to be. Regardless of how much he wanted to shag and torture his enemy,he kept his cool.As they say "everything happens for a reason" Once he let's go and goes on a mini-vaca with Will & Paris, well, things just get better. The humor just rolled off the pages. Like for instance, here's a quote that's had me laughing my butt off even after I read the book, the scene is when Strider and William meet up with Paris and a bunch of Strippers: "I call dibs on the topless one," William said from Strider's left," throwing back his ambrosia laced beer."And the one wearing dental floss" "That's a thong moron" Paris slurred from Strider's right. "If you call that thing riding up her ass is a thong, whatdya call that string across her nipples?" Will countered."A string" Paris confirmed his own genius."........... LOL! I loved it!It's obvious with all the tension going on this novel that Strider will have an HEA with a certain someone.I just can't wait!As for Paris,if he doesn't get the love of his life back,I'm gonna go insane.I'm getting tired of the wallowing, but at the same time I feel bad for him.Hmmmmm....William and Gilly? I have a feeling their story is going to be very emotionally.Someone's heart is definitely going to be broken. Woman only have so much tolerance to hold on and wait for their crush to finally give in and show love back in return. All in all,I loved the book and can't wait for the next installment to be released!

4.5 starsSpoiler-free reviewI loved the latest installment of Gena Showalter's LotU, but I can honestly say I wasn't thrilled to start it. I'm a Haidee-hater. And you know, it's not because she killed Baden (although that didn't exactly put her on my Christmas card list), it's because I didn't like her, her personality. But once we cut through all the hard exterior and see her gooey center, I liked her. I really liked her.Amun is one of the ones who you know will surprise you-it's always the quiet ones.Amun absolutely lived up to my expectations. There's one part where he is thinking to himself that he never understood the guilt his buds lived with because of the slaughter they were a part of right after they were bonded with their demons. Amun realizes they were out of control, and he feels bad for what happened, but he doesn't blame himself for what happened, and it was kind of refreshing, you know? He wasn't wallowing in guilt...which I find funny since he bears a HUGE burden so his friends won't have to. Haidee had a raw deal, I mean talk about being a pawn of someone else and not even knowing it! I won't spoil what she is, and what had happened to her, but crap, man...that was a sucky life! (or lives...)The angels were a great addition, and I hope that Zacharel falls in love. Hard.My favorite parts of this book, tragically have nothing to do with Haidee and Amun! The prank phone call with Paris, Strider and William calling Maddox was hysterical!I love Strider. No like seriously love Strider. I canNOT wait for his book (because Kaia is awesome! and she totally served him! Dude, best line "He'd won, but he'd never felt more like a loser." Sucks for Defeat to win, but...not...His interactions with William are awesome, and speaking of William... The Four Horsemen? Wow. Awesome addition to an awesome series. I liked the ending, but I wanted more. It wasn't abrupt, by any means, but I wanted to see the interaction with Amun and Haidee and the lords. Anyways, awesome addition to the series, and if you're a Haidee-hater like me,just have faith in Gena-- she will work her mojo!

After 50 days of this being on my currently reading shelf, I finally finished! I wanted to quit reading this book so many times, but I really wanted to get past it so I could read The Darkest Surrender and The Darkest Seduction. Strider and Paris's books better be worth all I suffered getting through this book.  In the beginning, this was one of my favorite PNR series but it has truly desolved into crap.  I have a TON of notes I took over the nearly 2 months it took me to read this, but I have decided not to bore you with everything that bored me.  Just know that Amun and Haidee are the most boring couple of this series so far.  B-O-R-I-N-G! The entire plot was boring and ridiculous and I rolled my eyes so many times they started to hurt. Plus, the ending was too easy! We didn't even get to see how Haidee was fixed in the end.  The entire scene was told to us by her...not even shown.  Ugh! I did like a few scenes in this book, but I'm not sure if its worth increasing my rating to 1.5 Stars or not. I enjoyed the bromance between Strider, William, and Paris; they were funny.  I also liked the scenes between Strider and Kaia; loved their banter and sexual tension. Sadly, I still want to read their story even after suffering through this disaster.  I recommend reading this book only if you are in dire need of a holistic sleep aid.  I swear that I dropped my kindle on my face more times with this book than I have with any other book...EVER! I even fell asleep twice trying to finish a single sex scene.

Before I started this book, I had some serious concerns about how Gena Showalter would pull this one off. I mean, the hero of the story essentially can't speak. And the leading lady is an old-arch enemy who killed a man that he loved like a brother. But there's a reason Gena Showalter is a best-selling author and I am a fan-girl. Not only did she pull it off, but she actually managed to give us great insight into our hero and made our heroine extremely sympathetic.Amun shares his body with the demon Secrets. He can read minds and in extreme cases, steal memories. At the end of The Darkest Lie, his gift (curse?) opened the doorway for hundreds of crazed lower-demons to also take up residence in his head... and he has been driven to madness. Meanwhile, Strider (a fellow Lord, possessed by Defeat) has captured Haidee. She is a Hunter, who has dedicated her life to slaying Lords. In fact, centuries ago, she managed to kill one. But once she is in the fortress, Amun reaches out to her telepathically. It is quickly revealed that the two share some kind of bond that makes them warm and fuzzy, despite the fact that they should be enemies. In her presence, the torment from the demons quiets inside Amun. But the Angels who have allowed him to live while he regained his sanity, demand he return to Hell (with Haidee) to be rid of them for good.I really enjoyed getting to know Amun. He's been around since the beginning, but like Kane, he was kind of like a piece of furniture. He was there in the background, utilized or referred to from time to time, but never given much of a personality. And Haidee is fleshed out wonderfully. I couldn't imagine how her character could be redeemed, but she was... with a fantastic backstory. Of course, we had our sexy-Showalter love scenes. They were good; though not quite as red-hot for me as in some of the previous installments. This book also gives us some more inside into Strider. (Win!) I find I like him more and more with each passing book. At the end of The Darkest Lie, I really thought he would be paired with Haidee, but it was interesting to see how his lust for her is dealt with. It was resolved a little too neatly in the end. But I can get over it, now seeing who his love interest will be in The Darkest Surrender. I can't wait to see how it plays out. 4 1/2 stars.*ARC Provided by Harlequin Books

I LOVED it! I just had an amazing time reading this one. I would have added it to my favs shelf if it hadn't been for the ending, you know? one of those rushed finished-in-the-last-20-pages kind of ending. If it had been a bit longer and the solution for all the problems hadn't appear from out of nowhere, I would have enjoyed it even more. It's sad because the book had the potential to be one of the best books in the series. What I liked the most was the connection the hero and the heroine established since the beginning: She could hear his thoughts and he could not read her secrets (not all at least). I must admit I did not have much expectations for this book because I thought Amun would be a boring hero. Since he first appeared, we never saw him do much, just reading secrets from enemies (which IMHO wasn't a big deal because the others ended up torturing them and having the same results, he could only get them faster). Well, I realized I was terribly wrong because he ended up being a terrific hero. He was super interesting, caring and much more powerful that I gave him credit for. It was great reading from His POV. I loved it when he said that while he knew he was hot, girls would still pick guys like Paris and Strider before him; and I loved this so much because the heroine preferred him since the beginning, no doubts about that. I just love when the connection between hero and heroine is so strong. We also get to read some about Paris and a lot about Strider. And I mean, a lot, which was fine with me as I couldn't get enough of him. I really have huge expectations for Strider's book and I can't wait to read it, specially because his heroine is gonna be freaking amazing. Don't wanna spoil it for anybody so I just wont say anything else. To sum up guys, this was an amazing book, great addition to this series which has become one of my top 5!!! Right now I'm loving this series way more than the BDB series which is a lot to say.

4.5 STARS!!!A few of you may know that I was less than thrilled to read this book. When I heard about the pairings for this book and Strider’s , I may have gone on a rampage, expressing my displeasure and annoyance. I really hoped for Amun and Kaia to be together and that Strider and Haidee would get a book because of their amazing chemistry in The Darkest Lie. But instead, we got Haidee and Amun and this irked me a bit. This WAS my opinion, so please don’t ride me too hard because I really couldn’t find myself accepting this early on.If there ever was a time when Gena Showalter had to prove herself, then this was it. And I think she did! With some helpful encouragement from my girl, Ang I picked this up hoping to be proven wrong! To be honest, I wasn’t too keen on Amun because he was the silent type, always on the sidelines and the one who had the other Lord’s back. Now in the spotlight, I found that I really loved Amun and thought that despite his choice not to speak, he had a really great voice and I really enjoyed reading his POV. He needs more air time in this series! And then there’s Haidee the Hunter...I never hated her for killing Baden, so she never had that hurdle with me. And I found that I also liked her a lot. She was flirty and tough and I thought Amun and her had great chemistry...which pains me to say, because I didn’t initially want them together. The sex scenes were great. I don’t say this often about Showalter’s work because I honestly can’t remember their scenes after I finish reading them, but I really enjoyed the time Haidee and Amun had together!I LOVED Strider in this book! He picked up the pace and was such a great presence! I cannot wait for this book!! Stridey, William and Paris never fail to make me laugh. That prank call to Maddox was hilarious! And I have a new favourite heroine!! KAIA IS THE SHIT! She is damn hilarious and can kick some major ass! I love her personality and this just makes me so much more excited to know that her book is next! Bring it, Showalter! I’m ready for some Harpy action!Favourite Quote:“I”ll pay,” William piped up, “After you describe everything about that kiss you two shared. Did you cop a feel? You did, didn’t you, you little hussy. I bet you moaned a lot, too.”

Gena Showalter delivers a deep depth into emotions with The Darkest Secret; LOTU fans will not be disappointed. You may even find yourself hanging onto your book so tight that you’ll leave prints. I fell hard for both Amun and Haidee. Both enemy’s and yet they need each other in a way that is so deep that will leave your mouth hanging open saying I can’t believe Gena pulled this off and yet she didn’t drag the story out or leave you feeling that they were trusted together to fast and hard. Totally brilliant! You get tons of action and secrets galore to unravel.I enjoyed the way Gena wrote the romance between these two enemies. When Hadiee is brought in by Strider she never dream she would find an attraction among the enemy, nor did Amun. These two need each other in a way that they cant deny. In order to save each other both must pay a price, one pays a higher price by giving their life.I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough to find out who or what Haidee really was and when I found out, I was left with my mouth hung open saying WOW! Leave it to Gena to think about writing it this way. As always you get to know the other Lords more. One of the Lords gets his butt kicked by Amun, that right someone should have kept his thoughts or secret to himself LOL.The only downside I found and it may leave some of you ticked is the sexual tension is very high between these two, but you won’t get to the actual sex for a long, long while, so just hang on. Oh ya, you may get mad almost the end…. Yep, it left me gasping and saying NO! Please don’t leave it this way.. Yep, you have to read it to find out what happened.

This was one of my favorites in the series, right up there with Reyes's book. This one really showcases Gena's talent...very few authors could pull off a non-speaking hero, and she did it awesomely! Haidee turned out to be my favorite heroine, and I loved how she didn't fight her feelings for long. It was refreshing to have a hero and heroine fall for each other smoothly, while battling external forces. Definitely loved this one!

4.5 StarsAmun, Amun, Amun!! You sweet sexy demon, you.I don't think there has been a hero in this series that I wouldn't offer to have babies with, Amun being among them. He was the typical sexy, masculine, sex god (even though he's a demon) that I have come to expect from Gena Showalter. I wasn't originally a fan of Haidee, I don't think may people were for the obvious fact that she had killed one of the previous demons - but I never doubted Gena's ability to make the story as outstanding as the rest. The love between Amun and Haidee was tooth ache sweet and the sex was smoken. There were a few teeny, enny, little things that didn't make this a 5 star for me. 1. I didn't like the part at the circus scene when there was a girl that was half bull. The description annoyed me a bit, because a bull is a male cow. So did this young girl have a big bull c*&k?? Or was it a girl with the bottom half as a cow, not a bull???? Yes petty, completely unneessary to bring up - I know, but just one point that stuck with me.2. I found the ending a slight bit abrupt (like i stated teeny, enny, little things). I felt like their relationship was a huge struggle throughout the book and then POOF a happily ever after appears out of nowhere. But apart from those TEENY, ENNY, LITTLE THINGS I LOVED IT!!!! And don't get me started on Strider.....okay, i'm going to get started anyway. HE ROCKS. No doubt in my mind I would be more then happy for him to scream his own name if he was inbetween my legs!!!! I sure as hell can tell you i'll enjoy it a lot more then my husband will enjoy me calling out "STRIDER" the next time I climax.CAN'T WAIT FOR THE NEXT BOOK!!!Love you Gena, you are such a brilliant, tremendously funny lady.

4.5 StarsI wasn’t sure what to think going into this book. I haven’t enjoyed the last couple books in the series quite as much as I had wanted to. They were good, but the secondary storylines took up way too much space and made me feel like the main relationship was getting shortchanged. I was thrilled to see that the main storyline got way more focus in this book!I’ve heard some buzz going around recently about people being irritated that Haidee hooked up with Amun when Strider was interested in her first. Honestly, this didn’t bother me at all. I thought the eventual explanation for Strider’s attraction was a bit of a cop out, but at no time did I think that he should have taken Amun’s place. All Strider registered as (for me) was the vehicle to get Haidee into Amun’s vicinity. Besides, just because he was interested in her didn’t mean she was interested in him. I thought she got her feeling across very nicely in the last book with the sharp point of a knife. :) I was a bit concerned (and have been ever since I met him) about how Amun’s romance would develop when he couldn’t even talk. Finding a heroine that knows sign language isn’t exactly a snap. Luckily that was solved nicely. I was worried about how the author would explain the connection between Haidee and Amun, but I shouldn’t have been. Their (unexpected) past together helped make sense of a connection that would have otherwise seemed a bit too convenient. I really enjoyed getting to know Amun. He has been mentioned often in the past books, but he never developed much of a personality. I was surprised to find out that he was an incredibly nice, caring, non-Alpha man. He paired perfectly with Haidee, who had seen such pain in her long life. Speaking of Haidee, the reveals about her were a complete surprise. Not just her past, but what she was. I really liked it and appreciate the author for coming up with new reasons for a character to be immortal. I liked that Haidee’s involvement with the Hunters and her part in Baden’s death weren’t just ignored. It wasn’t dealt with quite as seriously as I was hoping, but it was at least addressed. I was pleased that Amun was able to see Haidee’s side of things. He really was a very sweet guy. The secondary storyline in this book revolved around Strider. He is quite the show stealer when he’s on scene. That goes doubly for when we get to see him interact with his future heroine. We also got to see William and Paris along the way and learned quite a few interesting things relating to them. William is even more interesting than before and I’m really hoping he ends up getting a book of his own so I can learn more about who and what he is. Paris also seems to be gearing up for a very interesting battle. I’m very curious to see how that will resolve itself.Although I did enjoy the book, I had some minor frustrations. One, what was the deal with Micah? A big deal was made of him and Amun looking alike, but then it just fizzled out. That was a big coincidence to just ignore. Two, the whole cheating vs. not cheating thing really bugged me. I’m glad Amun pointed out that it was all cheating. Three, the end was too neatly solved. It felt a bit too similar to one of the previous books for me.Even though I found some things about the story too easy, I didn’t let it bother me much. I knew going in that the books in this series are light and fun, with characters and events that are usually over the top and that there’s rarely anything truly serious or angsty about them. That’s all right though, because they’re fun to read, sexy, and addictive. I’m already dying to read the next book! One last thing before I finish up the review. I really loved Hailee’s tattoos. I’ve seen that idea before, but it has always seemed like an extremely clever idea in cases like these. Also, I hope we get more info on Zacharel. He seems very interesting and I am amused by Strider’s reaction to him.Favorite Quote: Hate. Huh. He'd never hated himself. If anything, he'd always liked himself a little too much. Once, a human female had even accused him of picturing his own face while he climaxed. He hadn't denied it, either, and the next time he'd slept with her, he'd made sure to scream, "Strider" at the pivotal moment.Review originally posted on Fiction Vixen.

LORD OF THE UNDERWORLD – Every review of this book that I have read has focused on how people wasn’t sure how they would perceive, Haidee’s character – I on the other hand was more concerned about my lack of fondness for a mute Amun. MY AMUN - ALL TORTURED AND SEXYAMUN - AFTER HIS BATH IN HELLI can’t tell you when I read the last book in this series, but I was happy when it all came flooding back to me when we kicked off right were good ol’ Gideon had left us. Amun is fresh out of hell and is literally crawling with demons and my favourite Stridey-man has bought himself home a new play thang – Haidee. Haidee is instantly drawn to Amun because she thinks that he is, Micah her boyfriend. I really really really (one more time? Okay) really liked this book, more so in comparison to the other books because there was no fighting of the hero and heroines feelings for each other. They had sizzling chemistry together – each other’s fire and ice. It wonderful to see past memories filter through to help each other realize that there was more to one another than originally thought.I was just creaming my panties with the amount of page time Strider got. As my close friends know, I have been crowned Strider by polling. I don’t know why other than the fact that were both perfect in every way and made of awesomeness. I guess what also made the book fantastical was how Showalter can weave all the other lords into the stories. I get so frustrated with only little hints and droplets of the upcoming romances – Paris and Sienna – William and Gilly (although that one is going to fun to be seen played out). Amun has most defiantly reprieved himself in my eyes to be another warrior I have fallen irrevocably in love with, but not as much as Stridey-man. Two things that made me frown? The ending was too abrupt, solved too quickly. Secondly, I wish something would have happened so he could have spoken freely. But twas not meant to be.Cannot wait for the next in the series!

Another enjoyable addition to the Lords of the Underworld series. I was rather surprised at how much I grew to like Amun and Haidee. They were really sweet together and what a journey they had getting there. {I want an angel backpack!} I thought that Haidee's story was really interesting and I liked the whole play on fire and ice. There definitely were some smexy times and IMO it really reminded me of the times with Payne and Manny in Lover Unleashed !The only problem I had was that same ol' problem of "should I or shouldn't I" with regards to being with the other person. It just seems to get a little redundant and drawn out! I got really excited in the beginning when I thought there was going to be a certain turn of events with Strider....especially with the title of his book being The Darkest Surrender. (view spoiler)[I thought he was going to be with Zacharel...that would've been soooo great!!(hide spoiler)] But I'm good with how it turned out anyway.I really liked how we got updates on most of the characters...especially with how many there are! And it really didn't take away focus from the main story which was nice. There is a lot of Strider ~ as there should be since his book is next ~ and he is a HOOT!! And how she sets it up for his love interest....I really can't wait. The texting was hilarious as was the drunk calling {Poor Maddox....he always gets picked on!}. Can you imagine Strider, Paris and William on vacation with a pool full of strippers? The only sad part is Paris....but at least we get a bit of an update with his situation. We also get more info on William or Liam....some very interesting stuff at that! (view spoiler)[ He started the Horsemen of the Apocalypse !! and he can see dead people !! crazy !!(hide spoiler)] I really can't wait for both Paris' and Liam's books! Favorite line:"Make it 10. I want 2 style my hair for U. U know just how U like it. Stridey-Man: A$$hole."

Okuyucusunu her açıdan tatmin etmeyi bilen ender yazarlardan biri.Tadı damağımda kaldı.8. kitap.. Lütfennnn!

Review, including quotes, posted at Darkest Secret is book seven in Gena Showalter’s Lords of the Underworld series. This series revolves around a group of immortal warriors who have been punished for opening Pandora’s Box by having to each house a demon inside him or herself. We’re talking big, sexy, yummy immortal warriors. Warriors that have learned to (somewhat) control their demons and are now really awesome ‘people’ who are fiercely loyal to one another and those they love. Seriously, not much to not love about these guys and these books. They are Paranormal Romance at its finest. The Darkest Secret is Amun’s story, the Keeper of Secrets. Amun is not one to speak because when he tries, every secret his demon has ever fished out of someone’s head comes rushing out. He’d rather stay silent than risk hurting the feelings of those around him. He can also hear people’s thoughts, something he’s had to get used to over the years. He’s the Lord who is the most ‘stable’, doing anything and everything he can to help out his friends. He’s also the character we’ve known the least about from previous books because he’s so quiet, calm and seemingly ‘together’.But he’s found himself someone who can hear his thoughts! Someone he can communicate with! How can she hear him? Who knows really, but she can and that’s what’s important. Amun has found himself a woman he feels passionate about and who is helping him deal with the demon minions who entered him when he went to Hell in the last book. Yeah…these Lords are always up to something. Going to the U.S. to hunt some Hunters, going to Hell to help save a minion who has befriended one of them. You know, the usual kind of stuff we all do every day. (Not really) The only little glitch with the perfect woman Amun has finally found…she’s a Hunter. Annnnd she’s the one responsible for killing one of the Lords centuries ago. Well damn.Haidee has spent her whole life hating the Lords and the Demons who possess them. After all, they are responsible for the death of her family so it’s only natural that she do whatever she can to get her revenge. I liked how Haidee wasn’t written as automatically being cool with everything that was going on. I liked that she had a bit of fire in her. And I really liked where her character ends up.Amun and Haidee together…wonderful. Then again, Gena is excellent when it comes to her couplings. Her heroes and heroines are always unique and fun to watch. Witnessing their relationships bloom is sweet and the pairing in this book is no exception. Of course, you get your initial “Mine” moments – I always like those. Then you get to the real nitty gritty of the characters and you find out why they are so well matched. Now, the lovin’ in this series is always steaming. Really, there are some h-o-t scenes. But I don’t think I’ve even blushed the way I did when I read Amun and Haidee’s initial um…exploration. Authors always describe ‘things’. That’s a given. But I don’t think I’ve ever come across an author actually use a single word to describe what was going on. Honestly, I’m blushing just writing this and I’m not sure how else to put it. So I’m going to quote the book. You can use your imagination to fill in the blanks. And yes, what you think is most likely what is happening. LiiickThat’s it. I read that and I didn’t know whether to hide my eyes or *squee*. Seriously, that one word made that scene one of the ones I will remember for a long while. I mean really. *blush*We saw a lot of Strider in this book, which makes sense because his book is next. We also saw him with his future HEA. There are a few characters in this series that guarantee to put a smile on my face and make me giggle out loud the second they appear on the page. William for one, Anya is the other. And then there is Strider. I LOVE him! Love Love Love him. I really can’t wait for his book and I am very pleased with who his HEA will be. They are, once again yay Gena, a wonderful match!Gena continues to amaze me with this series. The books all follow the same overall story arc, but each book is so different one from the other. The characters are wonderful to read, easy to love and fun to cheer for. She’s created an incredibly unique world that sucks me in each time I pick up a new title. I enjoyed this installment and am really looking forward to September 27th when The Darkest Surrender hits stores.

I love Amun's story! He was such a silent character in the other that I didn't think I'll like him... God was I wrong! He was an absolute sweetheart and the glimpses of Strider(such an egotistical asshole ROTFL) and William(he is just WOW, I hope Gena writes his book soon) in the book made it more then funny.I wanted to hate Haidee since she killed Baden but after all she went through, the life(s) she had, her spunk and how hard and fast she's fallen for Amun I am ready to make her one of my favorite heroines(Anya still love you the most). All in all a book worthy of 5++ stars!PS: I want a short story about the angel Zacharel(emotionless and interesting dude :)) )

2 or a 3? I don't know, so I'll say 2 1/5. This is the first book in this series that I didn't like that much. I didn't hate it, but whether I could say I liked it is also another matter. It's an Okay, nothing more. HOWEEEEEVER, I can say I disliked the female main lead distinctly, she annoyed me, while the male lead was boring. I won't give up on this series after one let down, because I did like the precursors, so onto the next one and hopefully my faith in this series will be restored.

Ah be Gena, ne güzel yazıyorsun? Bir de bunun üstüne a Court of Mist and Fury elime geçti... okumak için kudurduğum kitapla bakışıyor "hayır, Gena'ya ihanet edemem," diyip The Darkest Secret'a geri dönüyordum. Çok şükür yoldan sapmadan tamamladık bu kitabı da.Güzeldi, özellikle sonu mükemmeldi. Tahmin etmediğim bir kaç şey oldu, ki benim pnrden böyle bir beklentim yoktur. Yok sonu beni şaşırtsın, havalara uçayım falan triplerine girmeyi beklememiştim fakkkkaaaat, işte yine oldurmuş Gena."No one hurt his woman. No one.""No one hurt her man. No one."Şimdi sınava mı çalışsam yoksa ACOMAF'a başlayıp geleceğimi mi batırsam karar vermeye gidiyorum... Elveda,Nuzzly
