Since I enjoyed Ms. Wood’s Twice Her Age I thought I’d give another one of her books a try. I LOVED this book! I loved the hero (Dick) and the heroine (Gabriella), loved their interaction together, and most importantly I thought it was a really beautiful love story. Now, I know it’s not for everyone; it is a BDSM story with vampires. Gabriella is invited to Peckerwood, WA to do research for her book (she is an erotica author) for a month. And what better place than a small town that lives BDSM right in the open. Now, what she doesn’t know is that the BDSM is also a vampire town where the vampire men (who are all Doms) try to find a life mate (their perfect sub). Will Gabriella give it a try or run away screaming from something she has never done before?I want to read Dexter’s story!! I hope this is a start of a new series!

I couldn't get into this. Somehow it all seemed kind of corny, and I hate it when the main characters keep secrets and manipulate one another.

AlexJouJou, Manic Readers--First, to get this out of the way, yes there is kind of a supposition of cheesiness with the names of the town and mayor. I expected a novel full of camp—and not the type where you go to the woods with friends. While To Play or Obey has humorous moments it’s not that type of story instead it is an alternate reality type story of why vampires are unable to have children, how the vampire men find mates, along with an exploration of the Dominant and Submissive roles...Overall I liked Gabrielle even though I thought her of the variety of “she does protest too much” occasionally. Mayor Dick just never really enthralled me due to the secret issue. I will say the scene on the beach between Gabby and Mayor Dick is combustible—it’s that hot. In general it is the BDSM components coupled with the vampire world that shine here—the other steamy scenes are good but definitely overshadowed by the other things. I’m hopeful that this is the beginning of a series as I’d like to see what happens to some of the other town folk like Dexter. 3 1/2 stars! To read the entire review, click on http://www.manicreaders.com/index.cfm... !Rho, The Romance Reviews--Abby Wood weaves an erotic story about a paranormal town immersed in the BDSM lifestyle that's had me hooked from the moment I read the first sentence!I liked this unusual twist on BDSM and paranormal romance. There was some tongue-in-cheek with the name of the town and the mayor. There were a lot of sensual love scenes, quite a bit of bondage and Dominance and submission. The town of Peckerwood was nicely illustrated in the story. The residents of the town helped to round out the story. One thing that I really liked was that the author was willing to poke a bit of fun at the story. The town is Peckerwood with the town's leader's name being Mayor Dick, and Gabby's safe word was Vulcan. So great! The only thing I didn't like about the story was Gabby's response to finding out the truth. I felt like her ultimate decision was a bit rash, and while I can't give you details without giving away a huge spoiler, I felt like there should have been more an issue made about her decision. While I understand it, I felt like it should have been a bigger deal. But even with that, I really can't help but enjoy this story. I was drawn in from the moment I read the first word. I hope that this is the beginning of a series, as I would like to hear more about some of the other residents finding their mates. I just knew that I had to read about a town named Peckerwood with a vampire mayor named Dick. Yes, I'm a big fan of humor based on body parts, and this was a double whammy. Luckily for me, once I got past the name thing, this turned out to be a good story...I like the idea of a town of vampire men looking for the women to complete them, and the fact that the men are all sexual dominants adds a nice twist. It's sad that they have to set up a lottery, to bring the women in one at a time and not draw too much attention to their private town, but that gives readers hope for several more stories. The next vampire dom in line is Dex, and I look forward to reading about his meeting with the potential mate he has found, a carnival psychic. It seems that the humor I found in this first story will continue in the next one. There is potential for a really nice series here, and I will stick around for it. Plus, I hope to find out in the next one if Gabby's rabbit Bucky survives being a pet in a town of blood suckers. 4.25 stars! To read the entire review, click on http://www.nightowlreviews.com/nor/Re... !Lea, BlackRavens Reviews--"Right from the beginning there is no doubt To Play or Obey is going to be a fun and unusual read...The characters are rich, complete and real. Though most are of different parentage than Abby first imagined, the people of Peckerwood have all the lovable characteristics, interesting relationships and general quirkiness to be found in the citizenry of any small town. The storyline and back-story make sense for the characters and for the progression of the story. And while there is clearly a leaning toward an HEA ending, it isn’t at all clear what an HEA would look like for these characters. There is a great balance of drama, romance and humor to be found in To Play or Obey. The following review was originally done for The Romance Reviews and can be found here:http://erotic.theromancereviews.com/v...Abby Wood weaves an erotic story about a paranormal town immersed in the BDSM lifestyle that's had me hooked from the moment I read the first sentence!Gabriella is an erotic romance writer who writes paranormal BDSM, and she's invited to have an all-expenses paid trip to the town of Peckerwood by Mayor Dick under the guise of learning more about the D/s lifestyle in a town where all the residents live the lifestyle 24-7. She doesn't want to pass up this opportunity, so she heads out to the town and meets Mayor Dick, and they have an instant connection. Mayor Dick wants Gabby and gets her to agree to pretend to be his submissive for the month in order to really learn about it for her books. She agrees but soon finds that she's not really pretending. However, the town of Peckerwood and its residents are not what they seem, and little does Gabby know, Mayor Dick plans on keeping her with him forever.I liked this unusual twist on BDSM and paranormal romance. There was some tongue-in-cheek with the name of the town and the mayor. There were a lot of sensual love scenes, quite a bit of bondage and Dominance and submission. I liked Gabby's character. She had some abandonment issues because of her past, but she really thrived on the BDSM lifestyle. For someone with trust issues, she seemed to give her trust to Mayor Dick quite easily but it seemed as though the freedom she got from being a sub opened that trust up in her Dom. The heat between them was tangible, and was obvious that in coming to Peckerwood, she finally found a place where she belonged and was able feel like she could be loved. It was obvious that first and foremost, this was a romance. Mayor Dick wooed Gabby from the first moment he met her, and the reader can't help but get swept away with her. So great! Lea’s Review:Right from the beginning there is no doubt To Play or Obey is going to be a fun and unusual read. We begin with a young writer of BDSM romance, Gabriella Torraine, receiving an invitation to visit the town of Peckerwood, Washington, to experience a community where people live the Dominant/submissive lifestyle 24/7. The letter of invitation had been sent by the mayor of the town of Peckerwood, Mayor Dick. See, you’re smiling already, aren’t you? Gabby decides to accept the invitation and her world will never be the same.Author Abby Wood brings great balance to this story. While I’m not sure I knew what to expect in the genre defined as BDSM, paranormal, erotic romance, I know that, for me, a standard has been set with this book. While there is a fair amount of humor, this is also the story of fitting into a community of people with long-standing relationships, the joys and passion of finding true love, and the confusion that comes when one learns their beloved has a few surprising secrets that move him from the category of somewhat unusual to the world of downright unfathomable. If forced to choose, I think Mayor Dick would probably be my favorite character, and not just because he is an amazing example of the male of the species. He tries so hard to do everything just right but he risks losing the love of his life by continuing to keep information from her because he simply cannot get past his fear that she will reject him due to his secrets. His friends warn him for weeks that he needs to be honest; he feels a sense of responsibility to others in the town to handle the situation; and he beats himself up with angst over the issue, but it seems that even when not quite human, open communication can be a problem for some males. Gabby is another great character. A woman of amazing personal strength and determination, she needs every bit of that fortitude to get her through the tough moments this story presents.Let’s get down to the nitty-gritty. The characters are rich, complete and real. It is an enjoyable story from beginning to end.Rated 5 Ravens by Lea!

Title: To Play Or ObeyAuthor: Abby WoodPublisher: Breathless PressPublication Date:ISBN: 978-1-926771-73-1Genre: paranormal romanceLength: 162 pagesBuy Link Author Website Author EmailRating: 3 Diamonds Heat Level: EroticOther: anal/oral play, BDSMReviewer: GabrielleDate: 1/29/2011When romance writer Gabriella takes Mayor Dick up on his invitation to visit the town Peckerwood she finds herself drawn to him like no other. When Dick asks her to make a choice her decision will change her life in more ways than she knows.I was surprised to find this book a story about true love. After reading the blurb for this book I expected a very tongue and cheek story. What you get is a story about finding love in the last place you think. I enjoyed watching Gabriella find herself and her place in the town but I found it a little unnerving that most of the choices that she makes seemed rushed. When she finds out that Dick wants her to be his submissive so she can research her books it does not take very long for Gabriella to jump right in full throttle. This book has a paranormal twist and when Gabriella finds herself again in need to make a choice it once again seems rushed. I would have enjoyed a bit more in the book on these parts. I understood Gabriella’s reasons but think that showing her putting more thought into these choices would have helped me enjoy the book more. Not only do we meet Gabriella and Dick in this story but we also get to meet many other interesting characters that live in Peckerwood. To Play or Obey could be a nice start to a series. I certainly hope that many of the other inhabitants of the town will find their happy ever afters.Although Gabriella and Dick are a nice couple and I enjoyed the banter and developing relationship between the two I found that I did not click as well with these two characters as I have with others in the past. I have enjoyed Abby Wood’s books in the past and even though this one is not a favorite I will be sure to check out more from this author in the future.

I have to say. I was a bit skeptical when it came to this book. I wasn’t disappointed. I loved the fluidity in which this story was told. It was hot. It was hilarious, and it felt real. I love it, when a story can make me feel like it’s tale can happen at any given interval. My favorite line has to be, “There are subs out there; we’ve just got to find them, love them, and convince them to stay.”I don’t know if that was supposed to be an “awww” moment but dang it…I said it anyway. I loved that one line. It turned the story from being just a book about men topping women, it made it seem like the men actually care and want some type of stability with their women. It’s a partnership, it’s much like that in real life as well. This book had a lot of “aww” moments for me. I found it cute that the Lead character (Gabby), slowly found confidence with the stern hand of her Dom (Dick). This book is definitely one of the better writing bdsm/paranormal books out there. I recommend everyone read it, whether or not it's your “cup of tea,” you will, more than likely, enjoy it. I give this book 4.5 stars. Reviewed by M.N. I liked it - I enjoyed the story of the vampires and what they were doing. I liked Mayor Dick too. However it all seemed to happen very quickly - within a couple days she agrees to be his submissive and she didn't really know anything about him much at all. The sex scenes in the beginning were alluded to only - it got hotter as it went but one thing I didn't really like was, by the time we actually read about the sex (other than oral on him) they'd been together a while and there were references to hot sex - but we never really got to see it develop. It made it a bit awkward and I found myself less invested than I might have been had it been allowed to grow and develop. The cheesiness of the names did leave a smile on my face though - every time she called him Master Dick I smiled - just something about that tickled my fancy LOL.
